Pregnant Reality Show Producer Found Dead Of Possible Overdose At 26
Internet personality and reality show producer/star Lyric McHenry had a promising life ahead of her, thanks to a burgeoning career and a burgeoning pregnancy. Unfortunately, McHenry was found dead on a sidewalk in the Bronx in the early hours of Tuesday, August 14. While no cause of death has been solidified just yet, it's suspected that her death was caused by a drug overdose.
It was around 5:00 a.m. when Lyric McHenry was found laid out on the sidewalk above the Major Deegan Expressway, wearing a pajama top but no pants. She was wearing underwear, however, and appeared to have no visible injuries outside of some bruising on her knees, according to the New York Daily News. She was alive at the time, but later died after being taken to the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital.
Police found a small ziplock bag of cocaine in her possession, leading to the belief that a drug overdose was to blame for her death. It's also being investigated how Lyric McHenry ended up on that sidewalk in such a sketchy part of town, as well as if someone else may have dumped her there.
Lyric McHenry was 20 weeks along in her pregnancy at the time of her death, though it's not fully confirmed whether she had shared that news with anyone else, or even if she knew it herself. McBride spent the Monday night out celebrating her recent birthday by partying with friends in lower Manhattan, as evidenced by a series of Instagram videos posted in the hours before she died. The last video she posted, in which she blew a clip into the camera while standing close with a male friend, went live around 1:00 a.m. It's unclear at this time what happened between that time and the point when her unconscious body was discovered.
The world of entertainment was in Lyric McHenry's bloodline, as she was the daughter of Hollywood producer Doug McHenry, who also directed House Party 2 and Jason's Lyric. Having reportedly worked on Barack Obama's campaign at 15 years old, McHenry teamed up with her sister Maya in 2016 to produce the E! reality show EJNYC, which centered on fashion and fabulousness, and starred her good friend EJ Johnson, son of NBA legend. Magic Johnson. Following the show's one-season run, she worked with companies like Refinery29 and Complex Networks, and later struck out to write and producer her own content.
At this time, the police investigation is still ongoing, so stay tuned to see just what happened in this tragic situation, assuming an explanation can indeed be found. We at CinemaBlend send our thoughts and condolences to the friends and family of Lyric McHenry in their time of mourning.
