Cosby Show alum Geoffrey Owens is returning to television! The actor, who was recently thrust into the spotlight after a photo of him working at Trader Joe's went viral, has booked a part on an established series, and it is a big one. Tyler Perry reached out to Owens through Twitter on Tuesday, September 4. In his tweet, Perry extended an invitation for Owens to join filming on OWN's "number one drama," which is set to begin next week. And Owens has taken him up on it.

Geoffrey Owens will appear in the upcoming season of the crime drama The Haves and the Have Nots. And it will not be a brief role either. Owens has signed on to recur on the series, appearing in 10 episodes, per TMZ. He will join the cast on location in Atlanta, next week. This seems to confirm that the drama that Tyler Perry was referring to in his tweet was The Haves and the Have Nots, which is currently the cable network's top-rated show.

His new role marks Geoffrey Owens' first multi-episode arc since the HBO series Divorce in 2016. The actor's recent screen appearances included guest spots on the supernatural series Lucifer and NBC's crime drama The Blacklist, both in 2017. Owens also guest-starred in the Season 6 premiere of CBS' Sherlock-inspired series Elementary. All of which have a pretty devoted audience.

As of now, there are no details regarding the character Geoffrey Owens will be playing on The Haves and the Have Nots. On The Cosby Show, he played Elvin Tibideaux, the eventual husband of the Huxtable's eldest child, Sondra. Time will tell if his character on the OWN drama will be a vast departure from Elvin. As for when viewers can expect to see Owens in his new role, we do not know for sure yet. Suffice it to say, it should be sooner rather than later.

The Haves and the Have Nots premiered on OWN in 2013 and has been going strong ever since. The hour-long series revolves around three families living in Savannah, Georgia. Two of the families are incredibly wealthy (the Cryers and the Harringtons), while the other one (the Young family) is not. Fans will have to stay tuned to find out who Geoffrey Owens will play on the drama.

It is unclear if Tyler Perry wrote this part specifically for Geoffrey Owens, or he already had a role in mind he knew Owens would be perfect for. Either way, this is such positive news. Owens is a great actor, so it is wonderful that he is getting the opportunity to demonstrate that on the OWN drama. New episodes of The Haves and the Have Nots currently air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on OWN. It is not the only show that's running new episodes.
