One Legacies Character Has A 'Rude Awakening' Ahead In 2019 Return
When Legacies returns in 2019, it's going to bring trouble for more than just Landon (Aria Shahghasemi). But first, doesn't it seem like the Salvatore school's "werewolf transition space" cells are getting way too much traffic from ... everyone? It seems like school's go-to solution for everything is to stick it in a dungeon cell. That's where we left friendly neighborhood vampire MG (Quincy Fouse) in the midseason finale, Episode 7.
Salvatore librarian and all-purpose hero Dorian (Demetrius Bridges) confronted not-so-friendly vampire Kaleb (Chris Lee) about his feeding problem -- including helping MG feed on a human. Dorian pointed out that MG is the type most likely to become a Ripper. Kaleb was left watching his ... friend? ... in his cell, appearing to regret his decisions. Legacies showrunner Julie Plec teased what's next for Kaleb:
A rude awakening for Kaleb is coming pretty soon, huh? That's the word from Julie Plec to TVLine. The first half of Legacies has already shown Kaleb as a rebel who likes to drink human blood, which is not approved by the school. Fans saw him feeding on Mystic Falls High School student Dana, then making her forget it happened. Kaleb had MG swear not to tell, dropping the bro line "vamps before tramps." (Pause for an eye roll.)
The midseason finale showed MG struggling to lift weights, while Kaleb was exceptionally strong. So MG asked for help to get stronger, and Kaleb found him a person to feed off. But Dorian said impressionable MG is the perfect candidate to develop Ripper tendencies -- to be a vampire consumed by bloodlust, essentially an addict -- which would explain why he couldn't just shut off his feeding to let that person walk away. That's part of why they'd want to keep him away from human blood, and Kaleb will probably regret exposing MG to that potential addiction.
The Vampire Diaries fans will recall that Stefan Salvatore was a Ripper when he was first turned, but was saved.
As awful as this could be for sweet MG, it definitely gives him an interesting story arc -- more interesting than just pining over Lizzie Saltzman (Jenny Boyd). Josie actress Kaylee Bryant told CinemaBlend Lizzie and MG is her favorite ship, and maybe helping MG find his true self will bring Lizzie and MG closer together. We'll see.
As for Kaleb? Yeah, it makes sense that a rude awakening may be ahead, with some guilt attached in regard to MG. But also, there are so many secrets floating around this school, and the larger world. It would make sense if that line from Julie Plec -- "he realizes he doesn't know as much as he thinks he knows" -- went further than just MG as a possible Ripper. Maybe it's also connected to the big picture story of the knife, the Malivore, Landon, New Orleans, and whatever the heck is happening with him after that cliffhanger midseason finale.

Legacies has 16 episodes to its first season, so there's a lot of story ahead for Kaleb, MG, Lizzie, Josie, Landon, Hope, Dorian, Alaric, etc. We just got some beautiful semi-closure on the Klaus front, dropped a few Caroline breadcrumbs that we all hope get picked up at some point, and set up the Malivore storyline to continue into 2019.
Legacies returns Thursday, January 24 at 9 p.m. on The CW. Here's what's still playing in what's left of 2018, and what else you can look forward to watching in midseason 2019.
Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
