New Amsterdam Has Been Renewed For Season 2 By NBC
New Amsterdam will continue treating patients for another season. NBC has renewed the medical drama for Season 2. That’s right, New Amsterdam is not going anywhere!
In a sign that NBC has tremendous faith in the freshman hit, the news comes with plenty of lead-time. Season 1 is far from finished completing its run. The current season is comprised of 22 episodes. Its 13th episode airs next week. For those following New Amsterdam’s ratings performance, NBC’s decision is not entirely surprising.
New Amsterdam is averaging 11.9 million viewers and a 2.5 rating in the key demo of adults 18-49, counting Live+7 viewership. Taking those numbers into account, the medical drama has performed as the season’s #2 highest-rated new scripted series in the 18-49 demo.
To those skeptical that television would see the successful launch of another medical series, New Amsterdam has proven them wrong. It got off to a strong start, opening with a riveting pilot and equally rousing second episode. The medical drama has clearly resonated with an audience that has been hooked ever since.
New Amsterdam stars Blacklist alum Ryan Eggold as Dr. Max Goodwin, the new medical director at one of the U.S.’s oldest public hospitals. A maverick, Max begins shaking up the system as soon as he takes over, stirring up a lot of good things in the process.
The series has not been shy about throwing its lead character into a lot of difficult spots. Max’s cancer diagnosis in the Season 1 premiere set the tone for the rest of the season. New Amsterdam is not a shy series, and its emotional storytelling has evidently caught on with viewers.
Aided by a remarkable ensemble, New Amsterdam is not in short supply of interesting characters. Fans of the show can now enjoy the rest of the season in the bliss of knowing that they will see another.

In the meantime, the first season of New Amsterdam is continuing. A new episode airs next Tuesday, February 12. (The show has to take a week off, along with so many others, due to the February 5 State of the Union address). Episode 13 will feature Dr. Bloom’s secret addiction to Adderall coming to the forefront. Check out the teaser for it below:
As the teaser shows, Dr. Bloom will be faced with an ultimatum regarding her future. It appears Dr. Frome will handle the intervention of sorts. Hopefully he can get through to her before she loses her job and, potentially, everything she has ever worked to achieve.
Dr. Sharpe reported Dr. Bloom’s abuse of Adderall to Max in the previous episode. Someday, Dr. Bloom will probably thank her for it. Find out how it works out when Season 1 continues.
As for Season 2, New Amsterdam’s next season should premiere at some point next fall. For now, continue enjoying the first season of New Amsterdam. New episodes air Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC, right after This Is Us. It is one of the many series that have returned for the midseason.
