A high profile veteran from the show that started it all in the NCIS franchise is headed to NCIS: Los Angeles, as David James Elliott will make his way to LA. That means JAG's Navy Capt. Harmon Rabb Jr. is teaming up with the squad for an upcoming arc on the CBS series that teases domestic terrorism and international affairs. The years have been kind to Harm, as you can see in this first look at his NCIS: LA appearance!
The Captain's looking good these days, as EW's first glimpse of his character in NCIS: Los Angeles indicates that life in the Navy has treated him well since audiences last saw him on JAG. He's not coming to LA for a happy reason, though. A group of ISIS sympathizers is plotting an attack on some US aircraft carriers. This will lead Chris O'Donnell's Callen and LL Cool J's Sam to Elliott's Rabb, who is the XO Captain on the USS Intrepid.
David James Elliott will make his debut on NCIS: Los Angeles beginning on Sunday, May 12. He's not the only JAG actor who will appear either, as Catherine Bell will also reprise the role of her character, Lt. Col. Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie. Mac is scheduled to appear in the season finale the following week. The episode will be tied to the ISIS sympathizers and their plot, and Mac will help the team by providing access to a Russian diplomat.
The episodes should carry a certain amount of intrigue for JAG fans, as they'll presumably get the answer behind what happened with Rabb and Mac and their relationship. The two flipped a coin to decide which of them would retire their Navy commission so that they could be together. Both character descriptions appear to show they're still active in the Navy, so does this mean their relationship is not?
Catherine Bell and David James Elliott's appearance set the stage for a pair of exciting episodes to close out NCIS: Los Angeles for the season. Elliott mentioned he was excited to get back into the shoes of his old character, although shooting his scenes on the series made him quite the busy actor as of late. Once he concluded all he had to do for CBS, he hopped on a plane to ship out to his next project.
The news of the JAG cameos comes as NCIS has been renewed for yet another new season, but NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans are still waiting to hear about their fates. It's nothing to worry about just yet, however, and the ratings of NCIS: Los Angeles are solid enough after 10 seasons that one would speculate a renewal is likely. Plus, why even bother with such an awesome callback if this is the end of the road?
