Hello, brother! The Vampire Diaries ended just over two years ago, but the Salvatore brothers are still together in the afterlife. Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore) just shared a photo with Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) in Poland, where Wesley's family is from.
The Internet tells me "Dobry Wieczor" means "Good evening" in Polish. As to why Paul Wesley's dad is wearing sunglasses at night -- I believe there's a song that covers that choice, but I'll just go with "because he's cool." That's where his son got his swagger.
This is not the first time Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder have shared a photo together after the show wrapped. They spent eight season playing brothers on The Vampire Diaries, and it's good to see they are still close in real life. In December 2018, Wesley shared a photo with Somerhalder in honor of Ian's 40th (!) birthday, joking that Ian was "no longer a teen."
In March 2019, shortly before the two-year anniversary of The Vampire Diaries finale, Ian Somerhalder shared a throwback photo to Vampire Diaries Season 2, which aired from 2010-2011. Of course, Ian also added a nice Zoolander joke:
This year actually marks the 10th anniversary of The Vampire Diaries premiere, which aired on September 10, 2009. One of their co-stars said he'd be up for a 10-year reunion, and I was thinking they could time it well over the summer -- pair it with The Originals finale anniversary in August, and also the premiere of Legacies Season 2 this October on The CW.
Paul Wesley has already joined the Legacies family to direct an episode of Season 1. He seemed like he might up for the idea of returning to The Vampire Diaries and The Originals spinoff as a monster-of-the-week, but not to revive Stefan Salvatore. Stefan's story is over, as played by Wesley, anyway. His spirit lives on through Legacies, in the Salvatore School itself (which was given to Caroline by Damon after Stefan's death) and through Damon and Elena Gilbert-Salvatore's daughter.
Legacies Season 1 revealed that Damon and Elena had kids, with a daughter named Stefanie in honor of Stefan. The Vampire Diaries Universe ruler Julie Plec told fans she was trying to think of a way that made sense for any of Damon and Elena's kids to be on Legacies. (I had some ideas there, not that I expect The CW show to use any.)
Last we heard, Ian Somerhalder was gearing up for V-Wars Season 1 to premiere on Netflix. That's a vampire show, but he's not playing a vampire. Nina Dobrev lost lost her CBS sitcom Fam, so fans are crossing their fingers that she finds the time and interest to make an appearance as Elena on Legacies.
Ian Somerhalder recently talked about what he thought Damon Salvatore did with his time as a human after The Vampire Diaries. The series ended with Damon and Elena starting a family, and then showed Damon and Stefan reuniting in the afterlife, with Damon closing the show with another sweet repeat of "Hello, brother."
