Arrow's Final Season Has 'So Many Characters' It May Bring Back, Showrunner Says
As Arrow prepares for its final season, the writers are going to have to find a way to wrap up the story while still giving its dedicated fan base some great moments. One really easy way to do this is by bringing back some of the characters audiences have grown to love over the years (from said show or otherwise), and give them one last adventure for fans to enjoy before saying goodbye.
Here's the good news, Beth Schwartz has indicated the Arrow team is already on board with bringing back some of the show's best characters. Specifics aren't confirmed just yet, but it sounds like plans are in motion to work in a handful of heroes or villains people will remember.
Part of what's going to make the final season feel so humongous is the amount of episodes being reduced to 10. With less than half the amount of episodes in the standard Arrow season to work with, there's going to be a lot crunched into these episodes that should keep things moving from start to finish. Especially if there's a chance folks like Slade Wilson, Malcolm Merlyn, or even Thea Queen turn back up!
Of course, none of those names have been confirmed just yet, but Arrow fans can assume they're amongst the multitude of characters the show is hoping to incorporate. We say hope because, as is the case with so many actors and former characters in a show, it's a process with a multitude of things that can happen that can derail a possible return.
Beyond actor and actresses' commitments they may have to other shows, there's also the fact that DC has a history of telling the Arrow-verse what heroes it can or can't use. One notable example was its ban on Slade Wilson for a time, which kept actor Manu Bennett from popping back on Arrow for quite some time. Justice League plans for the villain have seemingly derailed since then, though, and with Titans casting its own Deathstroke, Bennett may be able to return.
One character we can assume won't be returning is Felicity, as Emily Bett Rickards' exit last season appeared to be her curtain call. While Beth Schwartz didn't specify to TVLine which characters were being considered, but one would think she's not one of them. That's not to say there's no chance Arrow Season 8 won't feature her though, as there's always a possibility some quick scene was filmed in advance before her official exit in Season 7 for the finale.
