Patrick J. Adams Reveals How Suits Says Goodbye To Meghan Markle’s Rachel In Season 9
There’s been a bit of a Suits conundrum over the past few months. We know plenty of facts. First, Suits will be ending after Season 9. Secondly, Patrick J. Adams will be making an appearance in the final season. Third, the big cast reunion will happen in Episode 5. However, how would the show explain Meghan Markle's absence?
Now we’ve learned Meghan Markle will not be a part of Suits’ final hurrah but her character will be referenced, which makes sense, given she just had a baby and is also tied into royal life and not into the acting biz these days. Although the news does go against previous rumors that had been bandied about.
Still, Suits apparently still found a way to say goodbye to Rachel Zane. In a recent interview, Patrick J. Adam reveals exactly how the long-running drama found a way to do it. He noted:
So, there you have it. Mike and Rachel are still together – phew! -- but Mike makes a trip back to New York, where he will engage with the rest of the Suits cast still in the office on a case. He’ll be opposite his pal Harvey on this case, which could get dramatic.
In any case, there was no reason for Rachel to also make the trip in Episode 5, so instead, we’ll hear from her via phone calls etc.
It makes sense. If Meghan Markle has no plans to make an appearance, there was no reason for the show to do something drastic, like kill Rachel off or break herself and Mike up. (The latter would have been really heart-wrenching, given their ups and downs were a major part of Suits early on in the show’s run, and them finally stabilizing was a big win for many long-time fans.)
Instead, to update fans, Patrick J. Adams also mentioned to ET that Mike Ross and Rachel Zane are still going strong in Seattle, saying,

All in all, Mike Ross is “happy” and we’ll see how that folds into the story when he returns in a guest stint during Season 9. As for Patrick J. Adams, the actor has moved on to appear in Sneaky Pete and has a role in the upcoming project The Right Stuff opposite Game of Thrones actor Joe Dempsie.
