Netflix Is Making An Elvis Presley TV Show, And It Sounds Absolutely Ridiculous
Whether you love the music and movies of Elvis Presley or not, there's no getting around the fact that the man is a legend. Never mind the fact that you can get married by one of his many impersonators in Las Vegas, Elvis is a pop culture icon who's been portrayed as a character in many movies since his death in 1977. Now Netflix is working on a show about the late King that is promising to be absolutely ridiculous in the most wonderful way possible. Hold on to your peanut butter and banana sandwiches, everyone, because Agent King is coming our way!
Agent King has gotten a series order from Netflix, but this will be nothing like anything we've seen from any small or big screen version of Elvis Presley. The series will be an adult animated comedy about - wait for it - Elvis working as a spy. I know! According to Deadline, Agent King will focus on Elvis being covertly inducted into a super secret spy program so that he can work for the country he adores as he continues to live a public life as the King of Rock and Roll.
I mean, could the idea for this show get any better?
In case you're wondering how Elvis' former wife, Priscilla Presley, is going to feel about this wacky idea, well, no need to worry, friends...because she co-created the show! John Eddie helped Presley come up with the idea, and will help her executive produce along with Mike Arnold and Jamie Salter. Arnold is also acting as showrunner and writer for the comedy, and if you're wondering what kind of comedic tone Agent King is going for, knowing that Arnold worked on Archer should give you a pretty good idea of the type of insanity that will likely ensue.
As if all of that weren't enough, most of you will probably know that fashion was a pretty big deal to Elvis, especially later in his life. Well, legendary fashion designer John Varvatos will actually be custom designing Elvis' full wardrobe for the show, which, remember, is a cartoon. Varvatos is also a consulting producer on Agent King, along with Jerry Schilling.
I take back my earlier statement. Agent King just got 9000% cooler!
You might be wondering how Priscilla Presley and John Eddie even came up with such a fabulously out-there premise for Agent King, so here's what Presley had to say about it:
