The Walking Dead's Christian Serratos Set To Lead New Netflix Show, But What About Rosita?
Christian Serratos may be branching out from the zombie apocalypse on AMC for a brand new gig on Netflix. She has played Rosita on The Walking Dead since the fourth season, and her new show would reportedly take her in a very direction as she portrays legendary Mexican-American Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez. The role presents a huge opportunity for Serratos, but what does it mean for Rosita?
The actress herself hasn't weighed in just yet, and THR reports that she is still in talks with Netflix about the lead role in Selena: The Series. Negotiations are apparently coming down to scheduling issues due to Christian Serratos' commitments to The Walking Dead. Could this mean the end of Rosita on The Walking Dead? Although she is one of the lead actors on The Walking Dead, she's part of a large ensemble, and Selena: The Series would be a lead role for her.
Fans don't have to worry that she'll be entirely absent from the upcoming Season 10. Early glimpses at the season have shown Rosita and revealed that enough of a time jump went down that she's already given birth to her baby (and given the baby an adorable name). There is still the question of whether she'd need to entirely leave the zombie apocalypse behind to play Selena.
After all, Season 9 with Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan proved that the show isn't afraid to write out major players in the middle of a season, and all bets seem off after the Whisperers massacred a huge number of characters in Season 9's penultimate episode, including a couple of leads. So, let's look at what we know so far about the new show.
If negotiations go well for the actress, Christian Serratos will play Selena Quintanilla-Perez in a project that is slated to run for two seasons. A two-season commitment is a pretty big deal, and Serratos would be the lead and presumably needed for the bulk of the filming.
The show will follow Selena Quintanilla-Perez as a coming of age story that sees her realize her dreams, but it won't happen without she and her family needing to make some tough choices. Moisés Zamora of American Crime and Star fame is on board as executive producer.
Assuming this series follows Selena Quintanilla-Perez throughout her entire career, it will probably end on a tragic note. Selena was famously shot by her business associate in 1995, and she died at the age of only 23. Christian Serratos is currently 28-years-old. Selena's life and death were portrayed on the big screen in 1997, with Jennifer Lopez starring in what would be her breakout role.

If Christian Serratos does finalize a deal to play Selena Quintanilla-Perez for Selena: The Series, it could mean the end of Rosita on The Walking Dead. That said, Serratos departing wouldn't necessarily mean Rosita dying.
The show wrote off both Rick and Maggie without killing them off, and Maggie's son was a good reason for her to leave Hilltop for potentially safer surroundings. Now that Rosita is a new mom, could she do the same? I'm not sure how that would work with Gabriel, Eugene, and Siddiq, but I'd be on board with Rosita leaving without dying! If she does leave in the same season œ, The Walking Dead would be losing two huge female characters. Let's hope Carol is around to stay!
