The Flash Has Us Missing Tom Cavanagh's Sherloque Wells In Exclusive Season 5 Deleted Scene
The fifth season of The Flash was a wild ride from start to finish thanks to Team Flash adding two new members: Sherloque Wells and Nora West-Allen. They were on hand to help battle Cicada and participate in the milestone 100th episode, but sadly both were gone by the end of the Season 5 finale. Now, an exclusive deleted scene reveals Sherloque visiting Nora when she was laid up with a broken back, and it reminds us how much we'll miss him if he never comes back.
With The Flash: The Complete Fifth Season releasing from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on DVD and Blu-ray this week, check out the tense encounter between Sherloque and Nora:
When Sherloque joined The Flash in Season 5, he could have been just another brilliant Wells who helped Team Flash out of their sticky situations. Instead, we got a brand new version of Wells who came with an accent, a job as a detective, far too many ex-wives, and enough of an outsider's perspective that he caught on to some things that the existing Team Flash was missing. Case in point: that Nora was much more than she seemed.
This deleted scene comes from the "Seeing Red" episode of Season 5, which was shortly after the midseason break but before Sherloque started connecting all the dots about what secret Nora was hiding. At this point, Sherloque's curiosity was clearly piqued by Nora's behavior and the big questions she wasn't satisfactorily answering.
For her part, Nora was apparently in too much pain and misery to be too on guard. Her notebook, packed with the time language that would later be revealed as an invention of Eobard Thawne to help keep memories intact despite a changing timeline, makes an appearance. Without Sherloque, Nora's secret may not have come out with enough time for Team Flash to prepare, and even though Barry and Iris did lose Nora, the situation could have been a lot worse.
Of course, Sherloque with his ex-wives, habit of calling Ralph a "baby giraffe," and his many quirks was often a source of comic relief, but this clip is a reminder that his sharp mind made him essential to Team Flash and a refreshing part of Season 5. The season might have been less enjoyable if Nora was successfully fooling everybody and we never got any clues about what she was up to. He was essential and funny, and he'll be missed.
Fortunately, Sherloque didn't die at the end of Season 5, and it's possible that he could pop back over to Earth-1 from Earth-221 at some point. Tom Cavanagh is still on board The Flash, and will in fact play more than one character for the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover. The Flash won't be back with new episodes until October to confirm how Cavanagh will contribute on a weekly basis, but we can always hope that more Sherloque is on the way.
