Jared Padalecki's Supernatural Follow-Up Will Be A Walker Texas Ranger Reboot And What?!
Jared Padalecki has been a vital part of Supernatural since its CW-predating beginning, and now that the show is finally ending, it's time for the actor to lock down follow-up projects. Padalecki is doing just that, and he's somehow reportedly found a role that's just as badass as Sam Winchester. The actor will possibly be swapping that black Impala for a saddle, as he's reportedly set to star in a reboot of Chuck Norris' Walker, Texas Ranger that is currently in development.
To be expected, Jared Padalecki would be taking the role of Cordell Walker, a role made iconic by action icon Chuck Norris decades prior. Deadline reported that The CW is a contender to nab the series, likely because of the loyal Supernatural fanbase that would tune in to see Padalecki in anything.
CBS is also a contender to pick up Jared Padalecki's Walker, Texas Ranger reboot, and possibly the more likely one. Not only is that where Walker aired during its eight seasons, but CBS also has a much larger audience than The CW by and large. Plus, reboots of classic television series have done fairly well on the network, not only across its long history, but also in recent years.
As is the case with most reboots these days, the new Walker, Texas Ranger will shake up the original's story just a bit. Walker is going to get a female partner, whereas in the original series his partner was former Dallas Cowboys player James "Jimmy" Trivette. It’s worth noting this woman partner will be one of the only female Texas Rangers in its history, which adds some significance to the character.
Cordelle Walker will be returning home after a two-year undercover investigation to realize he has more work to do at home. The widowed father of two will likely juggle fatherhood and dealing justice in the interest of what’s right. No word on whether this version of Walker, Texas Ranger will feature the same moral-heavy plot lines of the original. It's hard to imagine it won't, though, considering how honorable a lawman Walker was in the original.
Considering the potential long-term success a Walker, Texas Ranger reboot could have, it is a bit surprising to see Jared Padalecki so willing to jump into another potentially huge career commitment. Before he spent 15 seasons on Supernatural, Padalecki had a five-year stint on Gilmore Girls as Rory's boyfriend-for-a-while Dean. Few actors are so lucky to score long stints on successful shows, and with the TV legacy that Walker, Texas Ranger has, Padalecki might just do it three times in a row.
