Sons Of Anarchy Vet Katey Sagal Explains Why Her Romance On The Conners Is Unlike Others In Her Career
Katey Sagal has had a wonderfully long and high profile career in television, and fans were delighted to see the recent Sons of Anarchy vet pop in for a guest starring spot on The Conners last season. We were even more delighted, though, to find out that Sagal would be around a lot more for the second season of the hit sitcom, as she'll be reprising her role as Louise in a whopping 10 episodes this year.
CinemaBlend's Jeff McCobb had the opportunity to speak with Katey Sagal recently when he visited the set of The Conners, and he asked Sagal how she thought that playing Louise's burgeoning romance with Dan would be different from her other television romances. And, she gave a perfect answer that her Sons of Anarchy fans are sure to enjoy. Here's what she had to say:
Zing! Look at Katey Sagal, getting in a Sons of Anarchy reference in her answer, totally unprompted. Don't you just love her? Every few years, Sagal manages to completely reinvent herself and how fans see her. For a long time she was Peg Bundy with the swishy hips and quick put-downs from Married...with Children, then she morphed into the cool, one-eyed alien, Leela, of Futurama. But, as soon as she took the role of Gemma Teller Morrow on Sons of Anarchy, she cemented herself in people's minds as the protective schemer and manipulator.
While Dan has been through a lot on The Conners, Katey Sagal is correct that he hasn't turned to a life of crime or started carrying a gun. Not yet anyway. Let's see how tough things get when he finds out about Darlene dating David and Ben at the same time. That could lead any concerned dad to brandish a weapon here and there.
Sagal made waves in Season 1 of The Conners when her Louise came on to Dan mere weeks after he lost Roseanne. It turns out that the two were old friends, because they had all gone to high school together. Louise had a fierce crush on Dan back in the day, but Roseanne snapped him up first, so Louise was out of luck for about 50 years. I supposed she figured she needed to make up some time.
While we're getting to see more of Katey Sagal and Louise in Season 2, this potential romance does also have the benefit of adding itself to the list of real-world topics that The Conners will be able to cover, and it shouldn't be any surprise that Sagal is glad to be a part of that.
Dan told Louise that he just wanted to resume their friendship last season, but now that she'll be around a lot more, it's almost a guarantee that she'll be trying to see if she can gently wear the, still newly, widowed family man down. We can see if Katey Sagal and Louise make any strides in that area when The Conners continues Tuesdays on ABC at 8 p.m. EST.
