A Million Little Things: Who Is Jason Ritter's Mysterious Character And What Is His Connection To Maggie?
Warning! The following contains spoilers for the latest episode of A Million Little Things. Read at your own risk!
Amidst all the drama and talk of the Grand Canyon, A Million Little Lies really got things moving for Maggie after her mother Patricia arrived with a lot more bags than Maggie or Gary expected. The news got worse when Maggie learned her mother and father are getting a divorce, and apparently, the extra bags were because mommy dearest is moving to Boston. What the hell is happening, and what does Jason Ritter's new character have to do with any of it?
That's a great question, as Ritter's mystery character was first spotted after Maggie was forced to deal with a pretty unbearable host at a restaurant. Ritter's character struck up conversation with her at a bar, and the two did a bit off casual banter before he dared her to go and mess with that host to teach him a lesson.
Maggie went along with it, because why not, but when she turned around she saw her mother touching arms with Jason Ritter's character at the bar. The two seem to know each other, though viewers were left in the dark exactly what their relationship is. Did Patricia move to Boston because she wants to be closer to Maggie, or is Ritter's new character the real reason Patricia suddenly packed up and ended a decades long marriage?
Maggie definitely had a look like she thought there were some boy-toy vibes emanating from the two at the bar, but this embrace didn't necessarily scream romantic. Jason Ritter's character could be her mother's new roommate, a mediator in her divorce, or maybe even a long-lost child like Maggie's half-brother or something? Please don't let it be her future step-father, because that flirting session will be yet another painful memory burned into the memory of every A Million Little Things fan from this moment on.
There is something happening with Jason Ritter's character, and A Million Little Things creator DJ Nash teased to EW ahead of Season 2 that he's a big deal. Nash suggested that Ritter's character is a callback to the amazing Season 1, and will really be a big deal once the truth about him is revealed.
Based on that, it sounds like the truth on Jason Ritter's character may not be revealed in the following episode. Personally I'm hoping it's sooner than later to dispel any lover theories, though DJ Nash's quote leads me to believe Ritter's character is a bit more complex than that. How many episodes could A Million Little Things get out of Patricia unleashing her inner Cougar?
