The Blacklist creator has given fans a pretty insightful clue for trying to solve the truth about Red in Season 7. In the premiere, a lot was going on, which made it tough to keep track of the numerous clues it provided. Katarina’s imprisonment of Red continued despite his best efforts at escape.
Liz’s mom’s quest for answers is all in an effort to garner knowledge from Red that he is utterly uninterested in providing. What does she want to know? Well, it apparently has to do with finding a Russian mystery woman. Why does Red wish to keep her whereabouts a secret?
If you feel like you are at a loss for finding out Red’s most penetrating truths, take heart. The Blacklist’s creator, Jon Bokenkamp, teases the truth lies between the lines. Asked why Katarina is going to such extremes procure answers from Red, Bokenkamp told The Wrap:

I am totally intrigued by this! As someone who tried their best to read between every line that Red said during The Blacklist’s Season 7 premiere, it is a promising lead! This fan hopes they are getting somewhere. One important clue that Jon Bokenkamp provides is that whatever Katarina is seeking goes to the core of The Blacklist’s mythos.
What are these Red-related truths that Katarina is getting at? Is Red protecting someone other than Katarina? Has he been protecting them this entire time? Is this mystery woman connected to why Red came into Liz’s life? These questions have to somehow be connected, not only to The Blacklist’s central mythos in general. It will hopefully shine a lot on who Red really is.
If I understood what Katarina’s former employees said about her current goal, then there is a mystery woman who somehow connects Red and Katarina. Whatever is going on with this potential third party and The Blacklist mystery as a whole, revelations are said to be coming.
Katarina is in possession of some sort of explosive information that could test Liz’s trust in Red. Hence, the “deep impact” that Katarina is said to have on her daughter in Season 7. Promotional posters have hinted at the possible wedge that could form as Red’s trustworthiness comes into play with Liz.
The journey with Liz’s mom and what it means for the truth surrounding Red is only just beginning. As Season 7’s big bad, Katarina is going to be a force to reckon with as The Blacklist continues. Red alert!
