Star Wars' The Mandalorian Is Very Obviously Dodging The Rise Of Skywalker's Release Weekend
Star Wars’ The Mandalorian is going out of its way to dodge The Rise of Skywalker’s release weekend. The Disney+ series has enough in the form of competition, as holiday programming will be well underway at that point. There will be no more powerful entity dominating the pop culture zeitgeist like the final episode of the Skywalker saga, though.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will arrive in theaters on December 20. The Mandalorian will have its series premiere on Disney +, November 12. From there, its weekly run will continue. There will be eight episodes altogether. Do not worry, though; a second season is already in the works. However, this is where The Mandalorian’s release schedule gets interesting!
The live-action Star Wars series will continue uninterrupted up until its penultimate episode. That installment will air on December 18, just in time for anticipation over the release of The Rise of Skywalker to reach its zenith. At that point, there will only be two days left before it premieres. Knowing its way around competition, Disney+ is not taking any chances, including with its own properties.
The Mandalorian will take a hiatus with the penultimate episode of its first season. If it ends in a cliffhanger, fans will be in for a bit of an arduous wait. That is because The Mandalorian will not return for its Season 1 finale until December 27! A whole week after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been out.
Disney seemingly does not want to take any chances when it comes to competing against its own properties. Who can really blame them? The company has reportedly spent an incredible amount of money on its Star Wars shows. The Mandalorian came with a reported price tag of $15 million per episode! You would not want any of that investment to go to waste.
When you consider that The Mandalorian will be running up against the final chapter in Star Wars’ Skywalker saga, you have a lot to contemplate. Excited fans should be in the theater throughout the week. So, strategically splitting the last two episodes of The Mandalorian's first season around The Rise of Skywalker is a smart move. No need to take any unnecessary risks!
Star Wars fans will get plenty of content in the final months of 2019! If you were not already hoping that Disney+ was offering its deep discount to everyone like CinemaBlend’s Mike Reyes, then you probably are now. Between everything mentioned above and what The Mandalorian’s Giancarlo Esposito’s has shared about his character, there is a lot to look forward to!
