Fox has finally revealed when Last Man Standing is returning! Fans have had to endure an arduous wait for the hit sitcom to have its Season 8 premiere after it had to miss the fall 2019 schedule. But, the good news is that the wait has finally been given an end date. When will the Tim Allen starrer be back? Last Man Standing will have its Season 8 premiere on Thursday, January 2, at 8 p.m. ET on Fox, and there is more good news!
The comedy will kick off its eighth season with two new episodes that will air one-after-another. Yes, a whole hour block of Last Man Standing is coming right after the new year!
Why did fans have to wait this long for the Tim Allen-led family comedy to return in the first place? Well, it had to do with some scheduling shifts that needed to be made for Fox’s other commitments. In the end, Last Man Standing had to stop standing in Fox’s fall schedule to make way for other shows.
An extensive wait will not be the only shift for Last Man Standing when Season 8 returns. The series is also moving nights. You will get to see the Baxters one night earlier because the show is heading from Fridays to Thursdays! Last Man Standing is no stranger to change, but this is an exciting one!
To recap, the series infamously survived cancellation, a revival at a new network, and multiple recasts, including Mike’s daughter Mandy. Plus, if you thought the wait for Season 8 was intense, fans have supported the show through worse. It took a year between Last Man Standing getting cancelled by ABC and getting renewed by Fox, and even longer to begin airing Season 7.
Despite all of that adversity, Last Man Standing is still standing! The series celebrated a huge milestone last season with its 150th episode. Add in some Toy Story 4 jokes, and there is no slowing the hit sitcom down.
The upside to all of the scheduling news is that the wait had nothing to do with Last Man Standing’s performance in the ratings. Its numbers were nothing shy of pretty fantastic, which helped the popular comedy easily earn a Season 8 renewal. Now fans just have to make it through fall and await the new year.
Last Man Standing will be right there to help usher in 2020. That is about as early a midseason return as any show could hope for! Thankfully fans will be able to enjoy the rest of 2019 knowing when to expect Mike Baxter back! Due to the series’ syndication showings, there will be a lot of opportunities to check in with the Baxters in the meantime.
