Gina Torres’ Pearson Cancelled After One Season At USA, So Is Suits Done For Good?
USA Network launched Suits spinoff Pearson in the same season that Suits itself was set to end, so it seemed like a way for Suits fans to continue enjoying that TV universe even after the parent show wrapped, but that is sadly no longer the case. Not even two months after the Pearson Season 1 finale aired, the Gina Torres-starring show has been cancelled. No Season 2 for Pearson!
Although Pearson was quite different from Suits, set in an entirely different city, and starred only one former Suits regular, there was hope that Suits characters could drop by or even join the spinoff full time. For diehard Suits fans, it would have been at least something, and reason to hope that perhaps a spinoff of the spinoff could happen. Hey, if the Arrow-verse can spin off from its spinoffs, why not the Suits/Pearson universe?
Well, fans who paid attention to the Pearson ratings throughout Season 1 probably weren't blindsided by news of the cancellation. Deadline reports that Pearson failed to attract a sizable audience, and wound up as USA Network's lowest-rated original scripted series.
This was especially surprising considering Suits powered its way through nine seasons at the network; if there was any spinoff of a show that was likely to be a hit for USA, the odds seemed good that it would be Pearson from Suits. Gina Torres was a popular character on Suits, and she wasn't inclined to return to the parent show, so Pearson was apparently the only place to be to get a fix of Jessica Pearson.
That said, Pearson was quite different from Suits, and not just because there were fewer movie references and it was set in Chicago. The disbarred Jessica jumped into the dirty world of politics in the Windy City, and the show was considerably darker than Suits. That's not to say it was dropping un-bleeped F-bombs any more than Suits was, but anybody going in to Pearson expecting a Suits 2.0 would have been in for quite a surprise.
Is it possible for Suits characters to return in the form of a revival or another spinoff? Now that we're in an age of reboots and revivals, it's difficult to rule anything out.
That said, the status quo that kept Suits going for the better part of a decade and survived not only the departure of Gina Torres but also Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle was very different by the series finale. I think we can at least safely rule out a Meghan Markle spinoff! She wasn't even asked to return for the finale, but for a good reason rather than any bad blood.

Honestly, I'm not sure many Suits fans would want to see a revival or spinoff. The show delivered some happy endings, and continuing the story via a new show might blow up those endings. Now that Suits is done and Pearson isn't coming back, my money is on the Suits universe being dead unless the day comes down the road that the cast would want to get back together for a reunion.
