The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's Kevin Pollack Says Cast Was 'Shocked' The Show Was So Popular
Every streaming service has its Award Winning flagpole series, and for Amazon that's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Amy Sherman-Palladino's comedy period piece has garnered all types of awards and wins, showing no signs of slowing down in the process. Season 3 of Maisel is arriving this week, and I was able to speak with the cast ahead about their tenure on the beloved series. And it turns out that actor Kevin Pollack was "shocked" at how popular the show has become.
Kevin Pollack is a serious scene stealer in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, playing Midge's father-in-law Moishe Maisel. Season 3 marks his second as a series regular on the show, but he admits that how beloved the show and family has become. After all, the first episode focuses on a Jewish family on Yom Kippur, with representation that hasn't been seen on television before.
You can check out my conversation with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's Kevin Pollack and Shirley Maisel actress Caroline Aaron below.
While some of the cast was unsure about The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's form of onscreen representation would go over, they were happily surprised to see how the Maisel/Weissman tribe was embraced by Amazon subscribers. The show has become massively successful, and is consistently recognized by the Emmy and Golden Globes for its excellence.
The Jewish culture runs throughout The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, because the show is very much focused on Midge's relationship with her family. Going into Season 3, she and her two kids are living in the Weissmans' New York apartment, where she's constantly shown bantering and arguing with her pair of concerned parents. Yom Kippur has also been apart of the through line of the show, marking the years that pass as Midge attempts to become a professional comic.
Both Kevin Pollack and his onscreen wife Caroline Aaron mentioned their concern relating to the way Jewish characters have been treated onscreen in the past. But the zany characters within the show are all beloved. Because even while they're getting on each other's nerves, Amy Sherman-Palladino's signature quick fire dialogue allows for endless comedic possibilities for audiences.
The conversation about onscreen representation has been amping up over the past few years. The importance of inclusion and visibility has urged filmmakers to create a more diverse workspace. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has an important cultural significance to it, in addition to being a delightful character-driven comedy. One that fans will be thrilled is finally returning for Season 3.

Season 3 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will follow the title character as she begins her first tour as a professional comedian. There are sure to be some misadventures and great sets, while Season 2's finale also left off on a big cliffhanger for Alex Borstein's Susie. Then there's the ongoing romantic tension between Midge and Joel, which continues to be mystifying as the episode count goes on. But considering how long Amy Sherman-Palladino made us wait for Luke and Lorelai in Gilmore Girls, who knows what she's got in store for Maisel's main love story.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's third season will premiere on December 6th. In the meantime, check out our fall premiere list to plan your next binge watch.
