Do not worry, Legacies fans! The Vampire Diaries and Originals spinoff is set to bring Hope Mikaelson and Josie Saltzman closer together after the Landon twists. Last season’s wrinkle meant Hope ending up in the Malivore pit, which caused everyone to forget her, leaving Hope with a big decision to make.
Among those to not recall her existence at the start of Season 2 was her boyfriend, Landon. Unaware of Hope and, thus, their relationship, he had moved on, starting a relationship with Josie Saltzman. Legacies was not about to pass up a great love triangle!
Add in another twist! Landon now remembers Hope, but instead of quickly settling the trio’s romantic dilemma, Legacies went around it. Landon’s best bro Raf persuaded him to leave Mystic Falls with him due to the danger they pose to people. In the end, Landon agreed and left town without choosing Josie or Hope.
While Landon did return at the end of the December 12 midseason finale to break up with Josie and definitively choose Hope, in the meantime, Josie and Hope had a cookie scene together, they defended the school together against the Krampus, Hope bonded with the ill-fated Clarke, and Josie got to gift her dad with his headmaster plaque to show Alaric is back as the Salvatore School boss.
All in all, they were OK without Landon, and it doesn't sound like we should expect much tension between Josie and Hope when Legacies returns in 2020. Danielle Rose Russell, who plays Hope, told TV Guide:
I think, in a way, it kind of brings Hope and Josie together a little bit more. There are good things that come out of it too... I think after the last scene you definitely see they are trying to make progress towards growth. It's a journey, so it's not just going to happen, but at least they're taking that first step. I think that with Landon leaving, in a way it was kind of good because it opened the door for them to bond.
Let the bonding begin! It sounds like Josie and Hope are on their way to making some progress in their relationship. Even though Landon was only out of Mystic Falls a brief time, there's always enough going on at the Salvatore School to remind you one "Hobbit" -- as Lizzie Saltzman calls Landon -- isn't worth breaking up a friendship. Don't forget, both Hope and Josie have admitted past crushes on each other, and many "Hosie" fans would rather see them together than either one with Landon.
However different Elena and Hope are from each other, they both have experience with love triangles at this point. At least everyone remembers Hope now! There are also stories coming that could bring Hope and Josie together besides their shared Landon drama. For one thing, The Necromancer is back! The Season 1 monster-of-the-week was actually one of the mysterious hooded figures we've been trying to identify.
Also, Josie’s evil Uncle Kai is heading to Legacies in Season 2. His horrifying time on The Vampire Diaries included murdering his twin sister Jo -- the biological mother of Josie and her twin sister Lizzie. To say he is a big bad would be an understatement. Kai has been teased as wreaking havoc in the second season. Will Hope play a part in protecting Josie from him?
