Tyler Perry Says He Writes All His Own TV Shows By Himself
2020 is the start of a new decade, which means it's a fresh opportunity to work on new hobbies, bit resolutions and other interests. Tyler Perry is especially psyched about the new year, and is flexing on social media with a boatload of TV scripts he worked on in 2019. The mound of teleplays is impressive, but what's more impressive is that Perry says he wrote them all himself without the help of a traditional TV writers room.
It's all about work ethic, which was the core message of Tyler Perry's post. Check out the director's message to followers in 2020, which is likely meant to be more motivational than a humble brag.
On that table sit piles of scripts for eight different shows, and Tyler Perry claims he wrote everything seen there, as well as just about every project he works on. That is quite an achievement, especially given the sheer volume of work the director churns out in both the movie and television world. Perry has every right to be proud of that, though not everyone on the internet is reacting to his Instagram post with mutual congratulations.
The comments have been flowing in from the masses following Tyler Perry's business-boasting, and while some are nice and congratulatory, many are not. Some have joked that Perry's solo writing has led to a lot of his projects drawing from the same trope-laden material, making many of his efforts feel the same. They may just be takes for people looking to crack a joke for Internet points, but some of those comments have gained a lot of traction.
Some think that Tyler Perry would benefit from having more contributors involved with his work, if only to mix things up a bit. After all, Perry said Hollywood shows typically have writers rooms full of diverse people, so he could easily bring other talents on board to possibly quell some of the detraction that his writing can sometimes inspire.
Others have taken shots at Tyler Perry for preaching "work ethic," while simultaneously not allowing for other writers to find a route to work with him. Folks lashed out at Perry's social media, and wondered how many young writers he may have helped had he been willing to bring them onto these projects.
These aggressive comments have led to many people defending Tyler Perry's work, and arguing amongst themselves whether or not Perry should be reaching out to others for his projects. It's probably not what Perry intended when he initially made the post. If Perry is bothered by the discussions, he hasn't shown it, having only posted a trailer for The Haves And The Have Nots since his script video.
