Well, that did not take long! Amazon’s Lord of the Rings television show was dealt quite a blow when it lost Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’s Will Poulter as a series lead. The loss came due to a scheduling conflict caused by the five-month hiatus following the first two episodes of Season 1. Now, Lord of the Rings has reportedly found Poulter’s replacement in a Game of Thrones actor!
Deadline reports that the Lord of the Rings series has tapped Game of Thrones' Robert Aramayo to replace Will Poulter in the leading role known as Beldor. Aramayo’s casting marks yet another addition to the sprawling ensemble. For one, he joins the recently-cast His Dark Materials star Morfydd Clark, who joined the series in an incredibly pivotal role from the Lord of the Rings universe: a young Galadriel.
As for Robert Aramayo, Game of Thrones fans will undoubtedly recall his appearances in the series. Aramayo took on the role of a young Ned Stark in Seasons 6 and 7. The character of course first appeared later in his life in Season 1, played by Sean Bean. Aramayo starred in the critical flashback scenes that helped reveal the truth behind one of the show’s greatest mysteries: Jon Snow’s true biological heritage.
The casting marks yet another Game of Thrones connection between the HBO hit and the Lord of the Rings series. A few months ago, Lord of the Rings had reportedly cast Joseph Mawle in a villainous role. Mawle starred as Ned Stark’s brother and the Stark siblings’ missing uncle, Benjen.
Benjen was last seen riding to Jon Snow’s rescue in Season 7, after which he presumably perished due to the White Walkers and wights. Joseph Mawle will ride again on Lord of the Rings as the villain, Oren. If Mawle and Robert Aramayo share scenes in the secretive Amazon series, the Game of Thrones connection will make for some neat behind-the-scenes trivia.
Before members of the Game of Thrones cast began joining the series, Lord of the Rings already boasted some behind-the-scenes Game of Thrones power. It comes from Bryan Cogman, who wrote for and executive produced Game of Thrones. Back in 2019, it was announced that Cogman would act as a consultant for the Lord of the Rings series.
Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones fans are in for a potential thrill thanks to the super-sized fantasy series. Now that the lead role has been recast, fans can continue getting excited over the upcoming series.
A premiere date has not been announced for the Lord of the Rings television show. It will eventually bow on Amazon Prime Video. To help cope with the wait for the exciting new series, there are always this winter’s premieres.
