Stephen Amell Gears Up For Arrow's Series Finale With 'Bittersweet' Message To Fans
After eight seasons and several crossovers spanning the Arrow-verse shows, the most recent being the game-changing “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” Arrow’s series finale (aptly titled “Fadeout”) will serve as the Emerald Archer’s swan song. As the end draws near, Stephen Amell gears up for Arrow’s series finale with a “bittersweet” message to fans.
Stephen Amell, who recently revealed his disappointment with Oliver’s death in “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” has been the Green Arrow for a long time. His impact as the series’ titular character is such that several of Amell’s Arrow-verse colleagues have honored him and Arrow ahead of the series finale. However, Amell wanted to relay his own message to fans and shared his appreciation for playing Oliver Queen for eight seasons. Here’s what he had to say:
Stephen Amell posted the message to Twitter and included a lovely picture of him standing on a rooftop in his Green Arrow costume, face turned toward the city’s skyline. The image is an ode to everything Oliver Queen stands for and it’s fitting that it’s the one Amell decided to share. You can check it out below!
Arrow might be saying farewell, but it’s not over until the final credits roll on the series finale. Before that happens, however, showrunner Beth Schwartz says fans should expect a lot of “wish fulfillment” when all is said and done. While Arrow is wrapping up its eight-season run, the episode “Green Arrow and the Canaries” served as a backdoor pilot to a potential Arrow spinoff, so it’s possible fans haven’t seen the last of Star City if the series is picked up by The CW.
Regardless of whether it gets picked up, the end of Arrow marks the end of an era for many fans and closes the book on Stephen Amell as Star City’s hero, as he'll be trading his green leather for a speedo in his new Starz show, Heels. Even Arrow’s Katie Cassidy is in denial that this is the last fans could see of Amell in the role. See her response to Amell’s message below!
Katie Cassidy has also had quite the eight-season journey. She started off on the show playing Laurel Lance and, following her sister Sara’s death, became the Black Canary. Unfortunately, she was killed at the end of Season 4, but Cassidy was brought back to play the Earth-2 version of Laurel in Season 5, initially siding with a couple of villains to defeat Oliver. Arrow will end with the two as allies. Oh, how the tables have turned!
Arrow’s series finale airs Tuesday, January 28 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW. The finale will be preceded by an hour-long special retrospective called “Hitting the Bullseye” at 8 p.m. ET.
