Tom Hiddleston Is Coming To Netflix For Thrilling New Drama
Everyone who's been paying even a tiny bit of attention to either the MCU, Disney+ or Tom Hiddleston will already know that he's set to reprise his role as Loki in a Disney+ series of the same name next year. But, it turns out that T Hidds won't have just that one television show coming up, but two, as we now know that he'll also star in a new show for Netflix, which will be quite different from what we'll get to see when Loki debuts.
Tom Hiddleston has signed on to play the lead in White Stork, a 10-episode political thriller which, according to Deadline, is set to explore "the paradox of truth in a post-truth world." Hiddleston will portray James Cooper, who's been chosen to run for a seat in parliament and assigned to Asher Millan, so she can make sure he and his life are ready for the intense public scrutiny to come. Unfortunately, it isn't long before she uncovers various secrets in James' past which could prove damaging not just to his career, but family and the powerful people who decided to back his bid for parliament.
White Stork comes from Eleven, the same company behind Netflix's hit teen comedy Sex Education, and was created by Christopher Dunlop, who will also write and executive produce the series, with Kristoffer Nyholm (Taboo) directing.
We've seen a lot of well-known film actors make the move to prestige TV over the past several years, but Tom Hiddleston is no stranger to the small screen. In 2016 Hiddleston starred in the limited series The Night Manager for BBC, which aired on AMC in the United States. He went on to be nominated for an Emmy for his work there, while winning the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
Tom Hiddleston also starred as Henry V in The Hollow Crown in 2012, but it's The Night Manager that has some similarities to what we'll probably get to see from him when White Stork debuts. That series followed Hiddleston as a former British soldier who'd taken up work as a night manager of a hotel, who's asked by an intelligence operative to help the government spy on an international businessman who's staying at his hotel.
The businessman is thought to have begun helping black market arms dealers connect with the intelligence community, so Hiddleston's character agrees to aid in the investigation. He then attempts to become a part of the man's inner circle to get the required intel, while hiding his efforts from his girlfriend and the hotel staff. So, it would seem that White Stork is going to see Tom Hiddleston play a similar game of secrets, lies and dangerous ties which should keep audiences on their toes just as much as The Night Manager did.
We don't know yet when White Stork will hit Netflix, but stay tuned to CinemaBlend for the latest. In the meantime, be sure to check out our 2020 premiere guide and Netflix schedule to see what you can watch right now!
