Marvel's Falcon And The Winter Soldier Casts A DC TV Star For Mystery Role
As the premiere date for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier draws ever closer, the Disney+ series is adding new people to its cast. The Marvel original's latest addition is a familiar face (and familiar voice) for many due to roles in DC television. Actor Carl Lumbly has joined the much-anticipated streaming series in a role that's being kept under wraps.
Carl Lumbly is well-known by DC fans who remember him as the voice of J'onn J'onzz or the Martian Manhunter in the animated series Justice League. More recently, he played the father of J'onn on Supergirl, and has also had guest roles on shows like God Friended Me, This Is Us, and The Chi. Lumbly is a talented veteran actor with a wide range, so there is a lot he could do in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
As mentioned though, Marvel has not announced what role Carl Lumbly will play in the Disney+ series. Deadline reported the actor joined the series, which is currently filming in Atlanta, and is still on track for a release of August 2020. What role could Lumbly play in this upcoming adventure?
While nothing has been confirmed, there is some speculation that Carl Lumbly may play Isaiah Bradley, also known as the "black Captain America." Bradley was a result of attempts to refine the Captain America super soldier serum one year after Steve Rodgers received the serum, and its testing resulted in the deaths of many African-Americans. Bradley emerged as the sole survivor of the experiment, and underwent a series of adventures in the Marvel universe.
Carl Lumbly is a potential fit for Bradley partially because of his age, but also probably because of the plot of the Disney+ series. The series will pick up after Sam Wilson was given the mantle of Captain America by Steve Rogers, which would obviously leave an opening for the story of Bradley in the MCU.
With that said there are no guarantees that Marvel Studios will bring in Bradley, or that Carl Lumbly will be playing a hero of any kind. He could just be some government official that needs protecting in this new adventure, or someone meant to be a thorn in the side of Sam and Bucky as they work alongside U.S. Agent. Really, the possibilities are endless on what Lumbly could be doing, so it's always best to sit back and wait for more details before getting too married to any one idea about the character he will or won't be playing.
The Falcon and the Winter Solider is headed to Disney+ August 2020. CinemaBlend is the place to be for more Marvel updates in the meantime, and for a look at what else is happening in the world of television and movies.
