Disney+'s Loki TV Show Has Added A Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Actor
Disney+'s Loki series has amassed a solid amount of talent for its six-episode series, and it has been confirmed that the show has cast another celebrated actor who was recently seen in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to join its ranks. Actor Richard E. Grant has joined the Marvel series, which will follow the God of Mischief after his dramatic exit in Avengers: Endgame.
While the news was previously rumored, it has now been confirmed that talks between Grant and the show are finalized and he's on board with the project. The report first came from Discussing Film, and was later confirmed by other outlets after the news broke.
At the moment, it is unknown what role Richard E. Grant will play in Loki. While his character is unknown, Variety has reported that the actor will only appear in a single episode of the series. No word as to which of the six episodes he will appear in, though one would think the role may not be that meaty.
As mentioned, Grant was recently seen in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as General Pryde. In 2019, Grant received his first Oscar nomination, for Best Supporting Actor, for the movie Can You Ever Forgive Me? Grant has done a good deal of television in his career, with a recent role in AMC's Dispatches From Elsewhere. He's also been in Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, and Netflix's A Series Of Unfortunate Events in recent years, just in case anyone was doubting how big a get Marvel netted when locking down this veteran actor.
It's worth noting this is not Richard E. Grant's first time in the Marvel universe. Grant played Dr. Rice in the critically acclaimed Wolverine film Logan, and was one of the doctors trying to pursue Laura. I highly doubt Grant would reprise the same role for Loki, though with the premise of the series being Loki traveling through time and Grant’s character only being featured in one episode, who knows? Perhaps Loki could be the thing that bridges the MCU to the Marvel properties that had been owned by Fox?
Richard E. Grant’s casting on Loki adds yet another talented actor to the fold, rounding out an already stacked cast. Tom Hiddelston stars alongside talent like Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Sophia Di Martino. The series will follow Loki as he uses the Tesseract to travel throughout human history, potentially changing it along the way. The Loki featured in the series is the Loki of a diverging timeline, as the MCU’s original Loki from previous movies was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
Loki is expected to release on Disney+ in 2021, after a handful of other Marvel shows. With that said, things may always change, so be sure to stick with CinemaBlend for all the latest on what's going on in the world of Marvel and other television and movie franchises.
