Meet Netflix's The Baby-Sitters Club Cast
It has been a while since fans got an update on The Baby-Sitters Club television series. The series was announced all the way back in 2018. Fast forward to 2020, and the TV show is readying to arrive on Netflix. Are you ready to meet the cast of The Baby-Sitters Club?
You may have known that the series had cast a major ‘90s icon in Alicia Silverstone in a critical role. Well, you are about to learn who her co-stars will be. It is time to meet The Baby-Sitters Club’s cast of characters: Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, Stacey, and Dawn!
The Baby-Sitters Club adaptation’s first season will span 10 episodes, which will run for 30 minutes each. Like Ann M. Martin’s books, the Netflix series will follow the girls’ friendship as they navigate middle school and the business world. Glow’s Rachel Shukert is the showrunner, while Broad City’s Lucia Aniello is the executive producer and director. Time to kick things off by meeting Kristy!
Kristy Thomas (Sophie Grace)
Sophie Grace will take on the role of Kristy. In the books, Kristy is the one who comes with the concept of The Baby-Sitters Club. Her entrepreneurial spirit pays off in a significant way. It is interesting to note that Kristy is holding a landline in this promotional picture. Where is her cellphone?
Mary Anne Spier (Malia Baker)
Malia Baker will play Mary Anne Spier. In the books, shy Mary Anne’s mom had passed away from cancer, which meant her lawyer dad was a single father until he later remarried. As far as the titularBaby-Sitters Club, Mary Anne is its secretary. Time will tell if the Netflix series shakes things up at all.
Claudia Kishi (Momona Tamada)
Momona Tamada will play Claudia on The Baby-Sitters Club. In the books, Claudia is the vice-president of the club and a Nancy Drew enthusiast. Will she get to do some sleuthing on the show? Stay tuned. As you can tell, the Netflix series has kept her stylish fashion sense from the books.
Stacey McGill (Shay Rudolph)
Shay Rudolph will take on the role of native New Yorker Stacey. In the books that The Baby-Sitters Club will be based on, Stacey has diabetes and acts as the club’s treasurer. Someone has to keep track of all that babysitting money! I imagine that it could really build up over time.

Dawn Schafer (Xochitl Gomez)
Xochitl Gomez will take on the role of Dawn in The Baby-Sitters Club. Dawn is from Palo City, California in the books. The Baby-Sitters Club is set in Stoneybrook, Connecticut. She and Mary Anne also become stepsisters after Mary Anne’s widowed father marries Dawn’s mom.
Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer (Alicia Silverstone) and Watson Brewer (Mark Feuerstein)
Alicia Silverstone will be playing Kristy’s “selfless” mom, while Royal Pains’ Mark Feuerstein will play her love interest, Watson Brewer. In the books that The Baby-Sitters Club is based on, the couple is married. Considering the hyphenated last names of the characters that seems to also be the case for the Netflix series.
As someone who thought that Mark Feuerstein played the ideal man incredibly well in In Her Shoes, I have every confidence that he will play a great stepdad to Kristy as Watson Brewer. Alicia Silverstone also has no problem striking up chemistry with her co-stars, so they should make for a very convincing on-screen couple.
If I were 10- or 12-years-old, this adaptation of The Baby-Sitters Club would have been a must-see for me. Casting Kristy’s mom with such a prominent actress gives me hope that the parents will be emphasized more than other pre-teen or teen series do.
Netflix knows its way around kid-led series. Stranger Things, anyone? The smash-hit series has been a dominating force. Of course, there is no Upside Down or sci-fi to speak of with The Baby-Sitters Club. It is going to be more along the lines of a dramedy about friendship.
The Netflix show is the latest adaptation of the mega-popular book series. There was a movie back in 1995, which starred a bevy of ‘90s regulars. A brief series ran in 1990. Twenty-five years after the feature film, The Baby-Sitters Club is making a comeback on the streaming giant.
A premiere date for The Baby-Sitters Club is still pending. While you wait to find out when you can join the club, check out Netflix’s list of new 2020 content. If you are somehow still in need of entertainment, there are also this winter and spring’s premieres.
Like a contented Hallmark movie character, Britt happily lives in the same city she grew up in. Along with movies and television, she is passionate about competitive figure skating. She has been writing about entertainment for 5 years, and as you may suspect, still finds it as entertaining to do as when she began.
