American Idol's Jimmy Levy Shares Emotional Message About Going A Cappella For Original Song

Jimmy Levi American Idol ABC

American Idol will soon run out of episodes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but for now, Hollywood week is still going. It's an entertaining distraction in the meantime, as audiences around the world are facing constant changes that impact their daily routines and overall quality of life. It may be a time where some need an emotionally uplifting new song with meaningful lyrics, and contestant Jimmy Levy is aiming to provide that with his upcoming performance.

The American Idol contestant successfully survived the previous episode's duet round, and will apparently be singing again. This time, Jimmy Levy informed audiences he's going to be performing an original tune that may strike a cord with anyone currently suffering from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. (Or anything else that might be keeping people down.)

Singing a cappella may be a major risk for some competitors, as it went with last week's elimination, though Jimmy Levy is being a bit modest when it comes to his own talents. Levy has proven himself as one of the top competitors in American Idol Season 18 thus far, something he may have foreseen given clairvoyance runs in his family. (For those that don't remember, Levy is the son of noted love psychic Jill Dahne, and even told the judges in his audition that he sees ghosts.)

Jimmy Levy does not have an a cappella performance of his original "Shadows" currently on YouTube. He does, however, have the full music video online, and it's certainly a solid enough song choice to justify showing to the judges of American Idol.

Jimmy Levy's "Shadows" is a tale of loss and centers on a point in time where he feels lonely and isolated. It's a feeling others may certainly sympathize with as citywide shutdowns continue going into effect across the nation, and just about everyone worldwide is being encouraged to self-quarantine to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It may be a bit of a stretch to say that it's a song directly related to events that are going on, but is still a song that viewers will possibly appreciate now more than ever.

Levy may be one of the lesser-mentioned American Idol competitors compared to others in Season 18, but it's worth noting he may become a major player down the stretch. Levy has featured vocals on tracks with major artists, perhaps most notably on XXXtentacion's "Wanna Grow Old (I Won't Let Go)." Levy is also slated to release an original called "Red Horns" with rapper Rick Ross in April, so look for him to be doing big things in the future regardless of how Season 18 of American Idol plays out.

Perhaps at this point it would be more fitting to say IF American Idol Season 18 plays out, since the season is currently on hold as the pandemic spreads.

For now, American Idol has a new episode on ABC Monday, March 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Continue to stick with CinemaBlend for more on the season, and for the latest news happening in television and movies.
