Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Receives Final Season Premiere Date, And Coulson Is Back
The long-awaited premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s seventh and final season finally has a date in the ABC lineup, and it's not too terribly far off, especially considering how long fans have already been waiting for new episodes. Yes, the remaining S.H.I.E.L.D. team (including Coulson, despite his death between Seasons 5 and 6) will be back on Wednesday, May 27 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
Well, that may not exactly be an incredibly soon premiere before the end of April, but May 27 isn't too far off, and the Wednesday night premiere slot (combined with a potential shortage of other scripted fare) could mean a sizable audience for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s final batch of episodes. And considering the time travel twist at the end of Season 6 (not to mention how S.H.I.E.LD. brought Coulson back), a lot is undoubtedly in store.
In Season 7 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the heroes who ended Season 6 stranded in 1931 New York might not get out of trouble too easily. Considering the new Zephyr that can time-jump at any moment, they have a limited time to find out what happened. Failure would mean disaster, and not just for their past and present, but also the future. Coulson and Co. will have 13 episodes to figure out how to save the timeline before the final credits roll on the series.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. currently ranks as one of the biggest TV shows of the rest of the 2019-2020 season not to be delayed or end early due to the production halts throughout the industry, so the buzz surrounding its final season could be greater than ever, especially considering the move from its previous Friday night time slot.
With generally less competition during summer seasons (and likely considerably less competition in 2020), S.H.I.E.L.D. may definitely go out with a bang for a sizable audience. The official Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Twitter account posted a video to celebrate the premiere date announcement and return of Coulson:
Fortunately, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s late May premiere date means that it won't be up against NBC's Chicago P.D., which is consistently the winner in ratings and viewership, although SEAL Team on CBS holds its own, and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s ratings haven't been the greatest over the years. P.D. vacates the Wednesday 10 p.m. slot following its premature finale on April 15, and SEAL Team will likely wrap by May 27 as well.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is back for its final season premiere on ABC Wednesday, May 27 at 10 p.m. ET, but if you're not yet caught up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or just need a refresher on how much poor Fitzsimmons have been through or what happened that Coulson managed to come back, the first six seasons are available streaming on Netflix. If you want to dive into the larger MCU, Disney+ had a wide offering of movies.
