Why Agent Carter Actor Was Surprised To Be Brought Back For S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Final Season
Of all the ways Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has kept things fresh over the years, swapping settings has been a near-constant success, whether it involves going into space, the deep future, or the distant past. The latter is how the seventh and final season will kick off for the Marvel team, which jumped back to 1931 in the Season 6 finale. Now that we know exactly when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be returning, more details have been released, such as the return of Agent Carter star Enver Gjokaj as Daniel Sousa!
As much as Marvel fans have probably been surprised to learn that Enver Gjokaj would be heading back to give his Agent Carter character a reprisal, it's arguable that no one was more surprised than the actor himself. Here's how he put it to EW:
It's definitely understandable from Enver Gjokaj's point of view why he wouldn't have expected to make a return to Marvel's small-screen efforts. After Agent Carter's somewhat surprising cancellation following its Season 2 cliffhanger, all efforts to get the Hayley Atwell drama resurrected were unsuccessful. Atwell did reprise Peggy Carter for Avengers: Endgame, which seemed like it might have been the final exhale from the Agent Carter cast.
But no! Since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is going on some time-traveling adventures in Season 7, it presented the perfect opportunity to reconnect with the MCU's TV past. Fans will definitely be looking for Daniel Sousa's return to answer some questions that were left unresolved when Agent Carter got cancelled. (While no one was necessarily asking if Sousa and Coulson had a lot in common, Gjokaj said they're very similar once they get in the same room together.)
Fans who have been paying super-close attention to social media over the months might have already realized that Enver Gjokaj was heading to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Season 7. It was back in July of 2019 when S.H.I.E.L.D. star Ming-Na Wen shared a behind-the-scenes picture of a line of bikes set for the cast members, with Gjokaj's name on one of them. The post was deleted, and nothing was confirmed about it in the meantime, but now we know that the pic was very much a spoiler.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. dropped the big release news via Instagram, with a video that teased the over-the-top Season 7 will also be welcoming back Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson, who might actually get to be the real Coulson again. Unless he's not, but maybe!
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will make its long-awaited return to ABC for a new night on Wednesday, May 27, at 10 p.m. ET. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more Marvel-infused info as more gets revealed.
