The Witcher's Henry Cavill Has Been Getting His Geek On Waiting For Season 2 To Resume Filming
There were many television shows in the midst of production when the world realized that we would not be able to keep sharing spaces as we used to for a while. This has led to a lot of people using their free time to do things like stream copious amounts of TV shows and movies, or even pick up hobbies that had been left behind when life got very full with the business of adulting. Well, The Witcher's Henry Cavill has revealed that he's one of the many who have returned to some old pastimes, and he's been getting his geek on while self-isolating, big time.
It's been basically a month since The Witcher had to halt the filming of Season 2, with the series being impacted by the worldwide health crisis and the diagnosis of new co-star Kristofer Hivju (who is, thankfully, now fully recovered). While the show's casting director recently admitted that it's actually been a helpful situation when it comes to finding actors she wouldn't have normally had access to, it seems that star Henry Cavill has had a bit more free time on his hands, and has gone back to a deeply geeky pursuit to fill his days. Take a look at what he shared on Instagram recently:
Man...Painting tiny tabletop game figure helmets is truly some intense geekery. I had heard that Henry Cavill liked to read fantasy and play video games (which was, of course, part of the reason he wanted to play Geralt in The Witcher so badly) but this right here is serious, you guys. I mean, honestly, if you embrace a nickname for anything involved in your hobby which is as honest as "plastic crack"...well, you didn't just get started on that stuff, did you?
As Henry Cavill notes in his post, his plastic crack habit goes way back, but because he has more time on his hands than he was expecting to right now (as sooooo many people do) he's been able to pick it back up and indulge his love of assembling teeny tiny tabletop game figurines, their accessories, and then painting them with brushes so delicate they only have six or seven fibers.
I checked out the website for the company he, apparently, got this adorable...I mean, badass, little helmet from, and my eyes crossed every time I looked at another figure broken down into its basic green / gray / black plastic parts. So, kudos on your patience and attention to detail, Mr. Cavill. I'm sure it has served you well in this life and will continue to do so into the next.
Now, I suppose it's not been all plastic crack and bread-baking for Henry Cavill during his time at home. He also used his post to point out the blurry computer screen behind his helmety fingers, and teased the possibility that there might "be some completely new skills I'm working on." There looks to be a lot of the written word on the screen, so it's possible Cavill's looking at a script (though, it doesn't look very much like a typical script on close inspection) that will lead him to learn something new, or maybe he's actually writing something during his downtime.
Either way, I'm sure Henry Cavill will let fans in on his potential new project as soon as he can, and here's hoping he'll show off that sweet figurine when he's finally done with it, as well. Season 1 of The Witcher can be re-binged on Netflix while we wait for updates on Season 2.
