Man, I Hope The Boys' Season 3 Rumors Are True
The Boys debuted in 2019 as a very different take on superheroes than fans of the MCU and Arrowverse were used to. With a corrupt team of "heroes," some quite literally killer protagonists, plenty of F-bombs to go around, and more than a little sex and gore to go with the humor, The Boys is definitely one of a kind. Now, rumors are flying around that the series has already been renewed for Season 3 ahead of Season 2 releasing, and I so hope they're true.
Given that Season 2 of The Boys was ordered by Amazon before the first season premiere, the report from The Cinema Spot that the show has already been renewed for a third season doesn't come across as too outlandish. The Boys generated a lot of buzz with its first season, and the second season has been hyped for months. Would an early renewal for another batch of episodes (with a new character already in the mix for Season 2) be so surprising? There are some comments from the Boys boss that could support the rumored renewal.
The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke posted a comment on social media suggesting that he was ready to start work on Season 3, and that was back in January. In response to a tweet from Jeffrey Dean Morgan (who worked with Kripke on Supernatural), Kripke said:
Jeffrey Dean Morgan's "In a heartbeat" response indicates that he'd be on board for The Boys Season 3, and another Supernatural alum chimed into the thread as well. Hey, maybe fans will soon get news of not only The Boys Season 3, but also some Supernatural stars joining up!
Eric Kripke also shared some promising comments on Reddit back in 2019 that should be exciting to fans of the show and fans of the comics, created by Garth Ennis. Kripke teased this in an AMA:
Basically, The Boys may not deliver anything like "Crisis on Infinite Earths" a la the Arrowverse any time soon, but an adaptation of "Herogasm" (a.k.a. the arc that saw the protagonists infiltrate Vought's week-long orgy) could be on the way if the show returns for Season 3. Erik Kripke didn't come out and say that a Season 3 has already been ordered or even if he expects a Season 3 order, but the "Herogasm" comment came back in July 2019. Perhaps, as the rumors suggest, a third season got the go-ahead in the months since!
For now, fans can only hope that Season 2 gets a premiere date sooner rather than later while we wait to find out whether the Season 3 rumors are true. Eric Kripke took to Twitter again back in November to reveal that filming had completed on Season 2, and we can expect "the madness" in summer 2020. In the meantime, we can always rewatch the first eight episodes available streaming on Amazon now, and/or start blasting Spice Girls classics to pass the time.
