Yikes, Charlie Cox Says He Turned Down Work Because He Thought Daredevil Would Continue
Fans were caught off guard when Netflix canceled Marvel’s Daredevil after three seasons, but none were arguably more surprised than the show’s cast and crew. While many of the actors have since shared their feelings on the Marvel project’s premature end, more details regarding Season 4 plans are steadily being revealed. Recently, series lead Charlie Cox explained that a fourth season appeared to be a sure thing, and he even passed up work to keep his schedule clear:
Charlie Cox was honest about his feelings when speaking with ComicBook.com and went on to explain that the he had already chatted with showrunner Erik Oleson and former Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb about where things were headed:
While Netflix didn't provide concrete reasons for canceling Daredevil and its other Marvel productions, the move was more than likely a result of the streamer and comics brand ending their creative partnership. This all took place ahead of the launch of Disney+, which is now the streaming home of most Marvel content.
It’s honestly not hard to understand why Charlie Cox still feels the way he does. He, along with the rest of the cast and crew, appeared to be committed to the series during its run, and the fact that he was already turning down jobs is a testament to that.
Cox isn’t the only former Daredevil star to open up about life after the show, as co-star Deborah Ann Woll has been candid about her difficulties with finding work since it ended. Following her confession, some of her other former castmates took to social media to lend their support.
Since Daredevil ended, fans have been clamoring for Marvel Studios to revive the Man Without Fear. Marvel’s plans for the characters are unclear at this point, yet a recent rumor pointed to Matt Murdock showing up the next Spider-Man film. But even if it is true, Charlie Cox doesn’t expect his version of the hero to be featured.
It’s unfortunate to hear that Charlie Cox sacrificed job opportunities for a potential fourth season of Daredevil. Here’s hoping we get to see him – and his former castmates -- back on the big and small screens sooner rather than later. Those who haven’t checked out Daredevil or want to revisit the show can stream still it on Netflix.
