The television world is in an interesting place, as many series have been forced to reduce their seasons. In addition, it’s currently unclear as to when shows will be able to resume production. Marvel Studios is also feeling the effects of the production shutdowns, as the company has even had to make cutbacks within its TV division. While there hasn’t been too much in the way of good news, one of the writers of Marvel’s She-Hulk has provided a positive update on the show’s current status.
She-Hulk writer Dana Schwartz took to Twitter to announce that the writer’s room for the series has officially ended while also mentioning that she’s now available for work:
She-Hulk and a handful of other Marvel shows were said to still be continuing work remotely. With the writer’s room disbanded, that would theoretically mean the scripts for the show have all been completed. Marvel Studios never specified whether She-Hulk would be a full-blown show or a limited series like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision. Dana Schwartz’s post may have now just confirmed that it will fall under the latter category.
She-Hulk was first announced to be in development during the 2019 D23 Expo. Months later, Rick and Morty alum Jessica Gao was confirmed to be joining as creator, head writer and executive producer. From there, the show began to fill out its writing staff with scribes like Dana Schwartz and Melissa Hunter.
In terms of the cast, Marvel has yet to make any formal announcements, though it’s rumored that the studio is looking for an “Alison Brie-type” to fill the role. Brie herself is actually well aware of the rumors and is flattered at the idea of possibly being the basis for the casting.
One casting that may be certain, however, is the return of MCU veteran Mark Ruffalo, whose Bruce Banner became Professor Hulk during the events of Avengers: Endgame. Earlier this year, Ruffalo confirmed that there had been preliminary talks between him and Marvel Studios regarding his inclusion. Rumors later began to circulate that he had finalized a deal.
Production details on She-Hulk were already being kept close to the vest but, with the global health crisis, its schedule is even more difficult to predict. Of course, it wasn’t the only Marvel Cinematic Universe series to be stalled by the current situation. The Falcon and the Winter Solider stopped with only a few weeks left of shooting, while Loki was also forced to stop shortly into its shoot. The only MCU show that was apparently able to complete production is WandaVision.
Nevertheless, this new development will be does represent progress for the highly anticipated TV show. It’s going to be a while before Jennifer Walters makes her debut on Disney+, but fans should find comfort in the fact that some work is still being done.
