When Monica Raymund left the hit show Chicago Fire, there was one big question on many fans’ minds: when is she coming back? Raymund left the NBC drama and her role as fan-favorite Gabriela “Gabby” Dawson ahead of Season 6, with her story then getting wrapped up in the Season 7 premiere. Thankfully, that wasn't the last time viewers saw Raymund’s Dawson.
After a lot of anticipation and hope, Monica Raymund thrilled fans when she reprised her role as Dawson during Season 8. Raymund’s brief return meant Dawson reuniting with her ex-husband, Matthew Casey, who had been beginning to flirt again. Considering that she has returned to Chicago Fire since her initial exit, would Raymund be willing to do it again? When speaking on the possibility Raymund said:
The door is always open. Right now I'm working with Starz, but that's not a long shoot so we'll see what happens.
So, there is hope! Monica Raymund comments to TV Guide are sure to be encouraging for Chicago Fire fans out there. While Raymund is committed to her work on her new Starz series, Hightown, she seems to understand that there's still plenty of work that needs to be done on the show she snagged after leaving Chicago Fire.
As for Chicago Fire, this isn't the first time Monica Raymund has indicated that the door is open for her to return. The question is if and when she would potentially walk through it. And if she does, would Raymund do so on a long-term basis?
Chicago Fire has been experiencing a few cast shakeups as of late. Annie Ilonzeh, who has played paramedic Emily Foster since Season 7, will not return for Season 9, leaving yet another vacancy in the cast.
There are a lot of Chicago Fire fans ready for Raymund to return and help add clarity to the relationship between Dawson and Casey. Despite his growing bond with Sylvie Brett, Dawson’s ex, Casey, has yet to entirely move on, and sparks were still flying between Dawson and Casey during her Season 8 return. So, hope is still mightily alive for him and Dawson to reunite and reignite their long-burning flame.
If (or when) Monica Raymund returns, Chicago Fire could be waiting for her to come back for some time to come back, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. NBC has renewed the series through Season 10, so there's still plenty of time for Raymund to eventually make her return.
We'll still have to wait and see if Monica Raymund does indeed return to Chicago Fire but, at this point, the chances of it happening are looking pretty good.
