Looks Like Disney+’s Loki Show Could Be Getting A Second Season After All
Fans are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Disney+’s Loki, which will continue the adventures of Tom Hiddleston’s mischievous (and sometimes well-meaning) antihero. Like its fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, the show is being touted as a limited series, with a season only consisting of six episodes. But Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Clark Gregg may have just let it slip that the show could run longer than a single season.
While pondering what S.H.I.E.L.D. would have been like with Marvel Studios backing it, he mentioned the number of episodes Hiddleston is filming, and it’s more than six:
Per his comments to Variety, Clark Gregg has reportedly spoken with his former Avengers co-star Tom Hiddleston about his upcoming Disney+ project. Hiddleston more than likely wouldn’t lie to Gregg about such a thing, so this would mean Loki is indeed getting an additional set of episodes.
Although there were rumors that Loki could get a second season, there was nothing concrete to indicate that this would indeed be the case. Now, Loki appears to the be only the second MCU series to have multiple seasons, as the animated series What If…? will also have two.
The idea of Loki having multiple seasons was never too far-fetched, as the few plot details we have tease a complex story. The series will pick up with the 2012 iteration of the God of Mischief who managed to slip away with the Tesseract during Avengers: Endgame. From here, he’ll use it to travel through time and likely alter historical events to his liking. The first teaser for the show also hinted that Loki will land on the Time Variance Authority’s radar. It’s also been confirmed that his adventure will have ties to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
In addition to the madcap chaos that’s bound to ensue, showrunner and executive producer Michael Waldron has also confirmed that the show will explore Loki’s internal struggle with his identity. This is sure to add even more layers to a character that we’ve already known for nearly a decade.
It’s exciting to see that Loki is likely getting a new season, though the wait is going to be long now that Season 1 has already been delayed due to the global health crisis. Nevertheless, this still means we have even more to look forward to from Tom Hiddleston’s trickster.
