It's the moment Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans are both anticipating and probably somewhat dreading. The Marvel drama is in the midst of its final season, which means the series finale isn't too far off. There have been positive sentiments from the cast regarding how fans will receive it, and another star has now revealed his belief that the producers nailed it.

The first Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast member to give their thoughts on the series finale was Chloe Bennet, who had nothing but praise for the upcoming finale and also thinks the ABC series will avoid a “Game of Thrones situation.”

Unless you were under a pop culture bolder last year, you probably know that avoiding such a situation would be a very good thing, as the HBO series didn't exactly go out on a positively received note. Asked if fans will be pleased with the series finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Jeff Ward said:

I do. Yeah, I think so. I think they stuck the landing because I feel like there is the trademark intelligence, humor and heart, in spades, that you would expect from the finale. It’s a bit of a tear-jerker. As Jed [Whedon], Maurissa [Tancharoen], Jeff Bell and Jeph Loeb have said, many times, it was really exciting that the show got to end on its own terms, and that it got to guide itself into a landing, after seven years. To me, I think they did a really great job, and I’m hoping fans think so, too.

Judging by Jeff Ward's comments to Collider, it definitely sounds like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be taking a different approach than Game of Thrones did with its conclusion. Ward indicates there will be an array of emotions packed into the series finale, which will be the culmination of an ambitious season for the superhero drama.

Jeff Ward is also thrilled that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. got to go off on its “own terms” as opposed to having to rush things. This is a far cry from the way fellow Marvel series went off the air. Most of those casts and crews had no idea they had just finished their final seasons when Netflix cancelled them.

Conversely, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s advanced notice gave the show a chance to line up some of those exciting returns, including those of Patton Oswalt and Agent Carter’s Enver Gjokaj. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Clark Gregg has also hinted that more surprises are on the way, so stay tuned. Needless to say, the superhero series isn't winding down to its series finale without a lot of neat twists for longtime fans.

Because the seventh season was billed as the final one from the jump, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. also had something clear to work towards. When you consider Chloe Bennet and now, Jeff Ward’s takes on the series finale, you can tell that fans’ desires came first in cementing its last chapter, leading to all of the flourishes it's bringing to bear.

As questions abound as to what's next for the final season, there are undoubtedly a few plot threads viewers hope to see resolved before the series finale arrives. Thankfully for those wishing to savor Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s final storylines (including the heartbreaking ones), there's still plenty of time left before the final episode hits our TV screens.

Tune into to see what happens leading up to the series finale when new episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s last season air Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. It's one of this summer’s premieres, and you can currently stream past seasons on Netflix alongside a lot of new 2020 content.
