Filming on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was suspended in March due to Hollywood-wide production shutdowns, and it hasn’t picked back up since. A couple of months ago, series star Sebastian Stan mentioned that the Disney+ show had gotten “far enough” in filming. However, there hasn’t been a lot of information regarding its production status since. Now, Anthony Mackie has provided an update regarding how much The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has left to film.
The Disney+ series was filming in Prague when filming came to a standstill. Now that there’s talk of the movie and TV industry resuming production soon, where does that leave The Falcon and the Winter Soldier? During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Anthony Mackie had some positive news to share. Here’s what he told the host:
I don’t think that anyone assumed The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was canceled because of the shutdown, but it’s good to have the reassurance nonetheless. The biggest takeaway from Anthony Mackie’s update is that the cast and crew only had “very little stuff” left to do before filming wrapped.
Anthony Mackie didn’t give a specific date or timeline for when production was expected to resume, but I’m glad that he’s “very happy” with the footage shot so far. Information about the series’ plot and characters is scarce, but it sure sounds like fans will be thrilled with the final result.
I’m personally hoping that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson — who’s still going by Falcon despite the events of Avengers: Endgame — will finally get to suit up as Captain America by the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He can’t be tossing around Cap’s shield for nothing, right?
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was originally scheduled to premiere on Disney+ (which offers a free 7-day trial) in August, but the production shutdowns might delay the show’s release. With that said, there’s no official word on whether the Marvel show will be pushed back at all or if it will proceed as is. Until then, all we can do is patiently wait for more info.
