Before The 90 Days: The Couples Tell All Turned Into David's Intervention, And It Didn't Take

TLC's Before The 90 Days: The Couples Tell All was supposed to be a final recap giving closure on all the couples' drama and statuses following 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days Season 4, but it still felt like there were stories to be told. This is especially true given how much of the special focused on David Murphey, and basically turned into an intervention of sorts in regards to his relationship with Lana.

The episode started out with David explaining his relationship with Lana to the rest of the cast, who were trying their best to understand how someone who was engaged does not interact with his fiancée on social platforms outside of the paid service he uses. Even Big Ed Brown toned down his mockery, and tried his best to express in an honest way that Lana seemed to be scamming him as a worker for the site, and was not a real lover.

David would hear none of it, and cited bizarre reasons for Lana's behavior that folks like Tom Brooks couldn't make sense of. At one point David alleged tha talking with Lana on Facebook or any other platform would be a violation of IMBRA (International Marriage Broker Regulation Act) laws, to which Tom (who has lived overseas and in America) tried to explain was not true. It eventually looked like the cast realized they were talking to a brick wall, and 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days eventually tabled the conversation and shifted elsewhere.

One bit of new information that did come out from the talk is that Lana is not the first woman David has proposed to. A statement he made about past proposals during 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days was revisited during the tell-all, and David revealed that he has proposed to women before Lana. Two women in America and two in the Ukraine, and unlike Lana, some got actual diamond rings.

Lana got a cubic zirconia not because David didn't trust her, but because he didn't want the ring to depreciate in value when he returned it so she could select her real diamond ring. Still, the news that these proposals are a trend for David does make the idea this could be a scam a bit concerning, which may be why Before The 90 Days: The Couples Tell All brought in some of David's personal friends to share their own thoughts.

I personally believed this was when the David and Lana situation would make sense. Surely his friends understood the dynamic, and had evidence that this situation was different in a way they and David understood. As it turns out, they were all as in the dark as viewers and the cast, and said they do think it's that weird two people can be engaged but only interact through the paid website and coordinated trips to the Ukraine.

David wasn't phased by the remarks and smiled, almost begging me to return next season to see how this all works out. At this point I feel like I have to, if only because I want the best for David and for this to not end up being what it seems like to everyone else. Hopefully Lana is for real, and if not, David will figure it out and find the true love he wants.
