Apparently Unsolved Mysteries' Popularity On Netflix Has Already Led To A Slew Of Case Tips
Despite having some solid competition on the Fourth of July from Mark Wahlberg’s Patriots Day, Unsolved Mysteries is currently the undisputed king of the Netflix Top 10 list. If you need another gauge of how many people are really tuning in for the revival of the popular franchise, producers have stated that the tips are rolling in regarding the cases highlighted on Netflix.
In fact, just one day after the revival hit the subscription streaming service, producers on Unsolved Mysteries revealed to USA Today that a slew of tips have already come down the pipeline, including 20 they feel are “credible.” When that happens, Terry Dunn Meurer says the show passes on the tips to the authorities, but even he thinks 20+ credible tips are just the tip of the iceberg, telling the news outlet:
Though those tips seem as if they are coming fast and furiously, the fact that people are sending in tips should not be a huge shock. The original Unsolved Mysteries ran until 2002 with Robert Stack as the narrator. During its time on the air it contributed to myriad cases and was even able to run some case updates. This is because thousands of tips came in for the series over the years.
This time around, Unsolved Mysteries has made some changes and is also adjusting to life in the time of social media. For example, certain episodes have come with tweets such as this one about Alonzo Brooks entreating people to share what they may know.
Three of the tips that have come in so far have been related to the Alonzo Brooks case. Brooks disappeared in Kansas back in 2004 after attending a part in rural La Cygne and his body was found in a creek a month later, but the case was never solved. In 2020, renewed efforts to figure out what happened have occurred thanks to reward money, the FBI and now this episode. In all, six episodes have been produced of Unsolved Mysteries so far. All of them dropped on Netflix on July 1 and are available for binge-watching on the streamer and some have already led to tips.
So far, the show seems extremely popular. After a solid opening in the Top 10, at the time of this writing, Unsolved Mysteries is in the #1 slot on Netflix. While the show’s ratings may always remain a mystery, the fact that it’s popular is not something that needs to be solved.
