Seth MacFarlane Wants To Get Back To The Orville Season 3 As Much As The Rest Of Us
COVID-19 has kept some shows from properly ending their seasons, and has delayed others from premiering to begin with. The Orville is unlucky enough to fall in both of those categories, and the delays are particularly painful for the fandom because so much was set to change in the Season 3 return.
For any fans upset about the delay in Season 3 coming to Hulu, creator and star Seth MacFarlane feels that. MacFarlane hopped on Twitter to tease fans about the upcoming season and expressed that he's as eager to get back to work as anyone else.
This Orville was in a unique situation when production was shut down. Seth MacFarlane explained months ago that the order was given in the midst of shooting a scene. Perhaps the exciting stuff MacFarlane is referring to in the tweet will be some nod towards the fact that Season 3 had to be put on pause temporarily, though in a way that can't openly be addressed in the show's universe.
One can only imagine what Seth MacFarlane has on deck for The Orville fandom, especially given how many changes Season 3 will have. The switch to Hulu will already change up episode structure and probably let the team get a little raunchier than they were on network TV. It was also revealed that every episode of the coming season will be directed by MacFarlane and producing director John Cassar, which should is a change from the first two seasons.
It has been over a year since the Season 2 finale of The Orville, which left the story in quite a unique situation. The younger version of Kelly changed the timeline in turning down a date with Ed but seemingly righted the timeline in the finale. Truth be told we don't know if the timeline was fully restored or not, given the ending did not return to the present and show the crew of The Orville.
Unfortunately, Seth McFarlane's news means that The Orville has not gotten back to work on Season 3, which could delay its release further. It's not a story exactly unique to what's happening with a lot of other shows, and hopefully, Season 3 is well enough along that there's still a chance that it could arrive in 2020. Of course, there are no guarantees on that, but with The Orville no longer bound to the network television schedule cycle, it's possible could drop the show at a time where there isn't a lot of other television out.
