How The Masked Singer Helped Miley Cyrus And Her Boyfriend Stay Sober
Miley Cyrus has been on a wild ride for, well, much of her life, but the former teen superstar has had a number of ups and downs just in the past two years. With that, you'd think that Cyrus and her current boyfriend of about 10 months, Cody Simpson, would be leaning on their mutual love of alcohol and weed to deal with having a relationship in the public eye, and after Cyrus had a couple of very public breakups right before they got together. But, the two have been living the sober life for quite a while, and it turns out that Cyrus and Simpson owe some of that sobriety to The Masked Singer.
After marrying on-again / off-again love Liam Hemsworth in late 2018, Miley Cyrus and her new husband separated about eight months later, in August 2019, and both soon moved on romantically, with the divorce being finalized this January. A very brief (and very public) relationship with The Hills: New Beginnings star Kaitlynn Carter took hold as divorce proceedings were underway, but Cyrus soon switched her romantic status up again, and turned her long-time friendship with Australian singer Cody Simpson into much more.
Cyrus revealed that she had been "sober sober" for six months during an interview with Variety just a few weeks ago, but Simpson has said that one thing which helped the couple was his time competing on the Australian version of The Masked Singer. Here's what he said on Australia's The Kyle and Jackie O Show:
Cody Simpson explained during his interview that he didn't think he was drinking to the point of excess prior to his winning run on The Masked Singer, but did say that he realized it still seemed as though it was "affecting his productivity" which was a feeling he hated and wanted to put an end to.
While we'll never know the truth of what finally broke Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth apart, the couple did cite irreconcilable differences as the source of the split, and sometimes that can be a sign that a couple isn't able to grow together and weather the changes we all go through. Cyrus and Cody Simpson may have gotten together after a relatively tumultuous time in her romantic life but at least it seems like they are both on the same page when it comes to staying sober, which would seem to give them a pretty good shot at sticking with each other for a while.
As far as we know, The Masked Singer hasn't convinced anyone else to go sober, but the show has been such a major cultural movement since its debut in the U.S., that I wouldn't be totally surprised if Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson aren't alone in this. Season 4 of The Masked Singer is set to hit Fox sometime early next year, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for the latest on that, and what you can watch this fall on the small screen!
