Why Yellowstone's Luke Grimes And Kelsey Asbille Say Fans Shouldn't 'Breathe Easy' About Monica And Kayce
Monica and Kayce have been through a lot on Yellowstone, and they faced an especially rough spell last season. At long last in Season 3, the couple has been a united front, with Monica diligently finding her place at the Duttons’ ranch, and Kayce continuing to realize his destiny. Can fans finally “breathe easy” about the couple believing their problems are behind them? Luke Grimes and Kelsey Asbille warn against having such beliefs.
Luke Grimes, who has called his role as Kayce Dutton his favorite character he has ever played, has some thoughts on Kayce’s marriage. So do not get that confetti out too quick, Yellowstone fans. Asked if fans can, in fact, be optimistic considering the current tranquility in Kayce and Monica’s relationship, Luke Grimes told CinemaBlend:
Monica and Kayce for the win! I really hope they pull through whatever comes their way because, as Luke Grimes points out, they have something so good and wholesome about them that makes them shine, at least in my opinion. That is why the Duttons are so fortunate to have them now living back home. Kayce, Monica, and their son, Tate, are a crucial factor for the future of Yellowstone’s titular ranch.
Luke Grimes’ co-star Kelsey Asbille also warns that the future might not be smooth sailing for Kayce and Monica. Like many Yellowstone fans, it sounds as though she is rooting for the couple to weather any storms that may lie ahead. On the chances of fans breathing easy regarding Kayce and Monica’s future, Asbille told CinemaBlend:
As a couple, Monica and Kayce have been going strong so far in Season 3. In Yellowstone’s latest bombshell-dropping installment (Episode 6), Kayce walked in on an explosive fight between his father and brother, Jamie. Not only are the Duttons facing potentially losing the ranch for an admittedly stellar $500 million price tag, they have also reached a new high in their personal conflicts.
Kayce could find himself torn between his brother and the rest of his family following the reveal of why Beth hates Jamie. Monica could end up siding with Team Beth in a significant way, considering how they bonded last season. In related news, Monica has agreed to join Thomas Rainwater’s efforts to raise awareness surrounding violence against women on the Native American Reservation by taking a position on his council. I believe that Kayce will support her in that, however.
The initial trailer for Season 3 showed Monica running from a mysterious someone, which also happened in the recent midseason trailer. That same teaser additionally showed a clothed Kayce getting into the shower with Monica. Hopefully, nothing terrible has happened there, but Kayce’s expression was indeed worrisome.

Whatever happens, I hope that Monica and Kayce come through it all together. They are one of the couples on Yellowstone that I have been rooting for since Episode 1. They have endured a lot, including the kidnapping of their son, Tate, whom Kayce rescued. So let's all hope that they continue growing closer as a couple as they individually tighten their bonds with the ranch.
A lot of the issues that have stood in the way of Monica and Kayce's peace as a couple seem to be resolved for now. As much as I would love to see things stay that way, I know that Yellowstone has constant drama waiting just around the corner. That said, I think that they are strong enough as a couple now to withstand any that comes their way.
Find out how Kayce and Monica navigate the rest of Season 3. New episodes of Yellowstone air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on Paramount Network. After that, this fall’s premieres will arrive as fans await the already renewed Season 4. You can check out Kayce and Monica’s tumultuous period by binge-watching the first two seasons on NBCUniversal’s new streamer, Peacock.
