Sam Heughan’s Not The Only Outlander Cast Member Who’s ‘Desperate’ To Get Back To Set
Plenty of TV productions have started or are prepping to get back to work and Outlander is no outlier. Recently, Sam Heughan spoke out about being “excited” to return to the set of the Starz series. He’s not the only one. In fact, some of his cast and crew members are more like “desperate” to get back to work.
Speaking at Paleyfest this summer, Richard Rankin in particular seems to be champing at the bit to get back and film Outlander. The actor plays the son-in-law of Heughan’s character Jamie on the show and as the team preps to go back to work, Rankin was very honest about the things he is most looking forward to.
Richard Rankin is nothing if not honest. The interview also touched on him growing out his hair so he didn’t have to deal with a wig for Season 6, which seems nice and will apparently also save the production money. However, he bluntly mentioned hating the long hair and the work you have to put into it. Maybe that’s the real reason he’s excited to go back? So he can get one step closer to short hair once more?
Caitriona Balfe also had a funny take on life once Outlander goes back into production, one that was hair-related as well. She noted that she may go for a cut this season, joking,
All in all, with the Revolutionary War approaching on Outlander, plus the fact that most of the cast and crew have spent a considerable amount of time in their own homes in recent months, there’s a lot of collective excitement about getting back to work. As Sam Heughan also put it, he’s excited for “no more Zoom calls” and to just be in a room with his fellow co-stars once more, as well. So, it's not just the fanbase that is ready for more time travel-related content on Starz.
At the end of the day, Outlander was originally supposed to go back into production on Season 6 in June. That month, Sam Heughan told This Morning that plans were being "put into place" to move forward. Weeks later, production still hasn’t begun, but it does seem as if things are ramping up. Meanwhile, some big productions, including the likes of Avatar and Netflix's The Witcher, have been able to get off of the ground.
Meanwhile, the powers that be are pushing out the Outlander: End of Summer series, which will feature behind the scenes access to Outlander content as we go through the current drought. Those episodes will run at 1 p.m. ET on Sundays on Facebook.
