Wait, Is Mando Working For Moff Gideon In The Mandalorian Season 2?
The Mandalorian Season 2 will be with us very soon, which means a number of our lingering questions from the first season are sure to be answered. One of these will likely be the exact intentions of Giancarlo Esposito’s mysterious Moff Gideon. Both he and Din Djarin (Mando) crossed paths during the first season’s final two episodes, but Esposito says the two will really go “toe-to-toe” in the new season. And there might even be a change in their relationship, which could involve Mando working for the Imperial officer:
Giancarlo Esposito’s ominous tease to EW, which released the first images from Season 2, is really going to get the speculation gears turning. It was pretty much a given that Djarin and Gideon would be facing off, as the Moff attempts to retrieve The Child. However, based on Esposito’s comments, Mando could find himself doing some of Gideon’s dirty work. Whether any of this would be intentional or unintentional remains to be seen.
One thing that’s important to make note of is that Esposito says fans will see Moff Gideon be “more of a manipulator.” So this could certainly indicate that he might orchestrate a situation or two that causes Mando to actually assist him in achieving his ultimate goals.
Of course, the Moff’s machinations are still being analyzed by fans. Giancarlo Esposito has long hinted that his character’s ideals may not be as murky as we think, and his recent statements seem to further imply that idea. But whatever the case, his plans seem to involve exploiting The Child’s Force abilities, and it’s far too early to tell if the ends will justify the means.
On top of all this, there’s still the matter of that Darksaber Moff Gideon likes to carry around. We’ve yet to learn how he came in possession of the ancient weapon, but Esposito has previously teased that his character absolutely knows how to use it. It could also mean that he has some major connections to “old school” Star Wars lore.
One thing we know for sure is that Moff Gideon is going to be hell-bent on seeing his plans through, which is going to make things challenging for the titular antihero. And at the same time, it’ll just make things all the more exciting for us as fans.
The Mandalorian Season 2 is set to hit Disney+ on October 30, and the first season is available to stream ahead of the premiere.
