Loki Star Offers Promising Update On Production Starting Back Up
Loki is coming to Disney+ to give Marvel Cinematic Universe fans an update on the God of Mischief after last seeing him making an escape in Avengers: Endgame, and one Loki star has a promising update. Gugu Mbatha-Raw was revealed as the Loki female lead back in February 2020, and she dropped some details about production on the highly-anticipated project, which was one of the many TV shows that shut down production due to the pandemic in the spring. Mbatha-Raw has some good -- if somewhat guarded -- news!
Gugu Mbatha-Raw spoke with Forbes about her upcoming work, and she shared what she could about Loki:
While Gugu Mbatha-Raw of course didn't dish all the juicy details about what's in store with Loki as Tom Hiddleston reprises his iconic role as Thor's brother, her comments should be very interesting to any fans counting down the days until the premiere. It seems she's at least back in Atlanta, where Loki was in production before the shutdowns, and quite possibly back on set for filming.
If Loki is indeed going to get into filming sooner rather than later, then the odds aren't too shabby that it could make the intended 2021 premiere. As it stands, the only Disney+ original set in the MCU that is guaranteed to hit its original premiere window is WandaVision, which just released its first trailer that quickly accumulated many millions of views.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was originally intended to be the first Disney+ MCU series, with WandaVision second and Loki down the line. The odds are still that Falcon and the Winter Soldier is ready for debut before Loki, but I would say that Gugu Mbatha-Raw's update is definitely more than a little promising. In a fun twist, the actress also has an interesting connection to Tom Hiddleston that predated landing the role in Loki.
Unfortunately, with the exception of Tom Hiddleston's Loki, none of the other characters have even had their names revealed, although there are some additional cast members attached to Loki beyond Hiddleston and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Also reportedly appearing in Loki are Sophia Di Martino of Flowers and Yesterday, Richard E. Grant of Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, and -- of all people -- Owen Wilson. Yes, really.
While the wait for Loki continues -- and the wait for details may be just about as long, considering the MCU levels of secrecy! -- you can relive the God of Mischief's MCU antics so far with the MCU films streaming on Disney+. His appearance in Avengers: Endgame is bound to be pivotal to Loki, and hopefully his journey will be enough for the show to score more than one season on the Disney streamer.
