Jared Padalecki's Walker Reboot Adds A Supergirl Vet To The Cast
After 15 seasons, Jared Padalecki wrapped filming on Supernatural’s final season. However, the actor didn’t take much of a break afterwards, going from completing work on Supernatural to starring as the lead in the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot, simply called Walker. The new series recently got an official premiere date on The CW and has also added a Supergirl vet to its growing cast list.
Supergirl’s Odette Annable has been cast as Geri in Walker. The character is described as a bartender who shares a history and friendship with Walker and his late wife, Emily. However, Geri hasn’t seen Walker in a long time and his return to Austin after being undercover for two years will bring her back into his orbit. Per EW, Annable will recur in the role, though it’s unclear how many episodes she is set to appear in.
Odette Annable joins an already stacked cast of familiar faces from across television. In addition to Jared Padalecki, the series stars Pretty Little Liars’ Keegan Allen as Walker’s brother, The 100’s Lindsey Morgan as Walker’s partner Micki, SEAL Team’s Coby Bell as Texas Ranger Captain Larry James, Supernatural alum Mitch Pileggi and Molly Hagan as Walker’s dad and mom, and Genevieve Padalecki, Jared Padalecki’s real-life wife, as Walker’s deceased wife Emily. She will also recur on the show.
Odette Annable’s casting is great news, as she’s a fantastic actress in my humble opinion. On Supergirl, Annable pulled double duty as the Kryptonian villain Reign and the kind Samantha Arias, Lena Luthor’s friend and the acting CEO of L-Corp. Annable has also starred in the series Tell Me a Story, House, and Two and a Half Men, among several other projects.
Earlier this year, Odette Annable was cast as Janey Steadman in the series thirtysomething(else) alongside fellow Supergirl alum Chris Wood. The series, a sequel to the '80s drama thirtysomething, was set to include several original cast members as well. However, the series’ pilot order was axed by ABC in June, reportedly due to the impact of COVID-19.
Walker Season 1 will consist of 13 episodes and has already begun filming, with over 50% of the production being filmed on location in Austin, Texas. The series was ordered by The CW in 2019 but, like many other television productions, was delayed due to the pandemic-related shutdowns that swept the movie and TV industries in March. However, now that many TV productions have resumed filming, the reboot to the '90s drama can really get started (hopefully without any more interruptions).
The Walker, Texas Ranger reboot is officially set to premiere on Thursday, January 21 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW. For more on what to watch in the meantime, be sure to check out our 2020 fall TV premiere guide.
