Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

That awesome bromance shared by Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes in Captain America: Civil War is without a doubt one of the best in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that's exactly why there's so much buzz surrounding The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, the upcoming Disney+ series solely based on Steve Rogers' two best friends going off on all kinds of adventures now that Captain America has handed over his shield and gone to see about a girl.

This superhero team-up series has been one of the most highly anticipated additions to the Disney+ stable of original shows ever since it was announced with a slew of other MCU series, and even though we're still some time away from its upcoming release, now's a good a time as any to look back on what we know about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier before its release.

According to the show's Disney+ page, we'll see Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes team up once again at some point in 2021, though the exact date remains a mystery.

The Falcon And The Winter Soldier Will Be Told Over Six Episodes

When The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was first announced, the it was revealed that the continuation of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes' story would be told over the course of six episodes, though the length of those episodes remains unclear. During that announcement, Deadline reported that Kari Skogland, who has directed episodes of House of Cards, The Walking Dead, and The Handmaid's Tale, would be helming the six-part Disney+ series.

Emily VanCamp's Sharon Carter, AKA Agent 13, Appears In The Disney+ Series

Emily VanCamp's Sharon Carter, also known as Agent 13, was introduced in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier in a small yet pivotal role that was expanded in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. The niece of S.H.E.I.L.D. co-founder Sharon Carter is set to appear in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier after being "dusted" during the Snap and brought back with the second Snap in the previous two Avengers movies. In a 2019 conversation with EW, VanCamp explained that the series will reveal what her character has been up to since going on the run after helping Steve Rogers and company in Captain America: Civil War.

Daniel Bruhl's Baron Zemo Will Also Be Returning For The Falcon And The Winter Soldier

Sharon Carter won't be the only character from Captain America: Civl War to make an appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as Daniel Bruhl will once again be portraying Baron Helmut Zemo in the upcoming Disney+ series. It remains a mystery as to exactly how Zemo will come into the picture in the upcoming six-part series, especially considering he was last seen being held in a very intricate and heavily guarded high-tech prison after not being able to fulfill his destiny and avenge his family at the end of 2016's Civil War. But the Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of twists and turns, so it's safe to assume there's quite a story behind Zemo coming back after all this time.

Falcon And The Winter Soldier Will Cross Paths With Captain America Lookalike U.S. Agent

In addition to the two returning characters from previous movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will also be introducing one the most notorious characters form Marvel Comics with John Walker, also known as U.S. Agent, the United States government's more militaristic choice to replace Captain America after Steve Rogers stopped being one of Earth's mightiest heroes.

The conflicted character (often presented as a hero while other times as a villain) will be brought to the screen by Wyatt Russell when the Disney+ series debuts at some point in 2021, but it's hard to say exactly where he will stand. On one hand, U.S. Agent could be working with Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, but he could very well be hunting them down or working with Baron Helmut Zemo in some capacity.

Sebastian Stan in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Sebastian Stan Has Compared The Falcon And The Winter Soldier To Captain America: The Winter Soldier

It appears that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will appear to be more than just your everyday television series, and will instead be presented in a more cinematic fashion. When speaking with The Hollywood Reporter back in April 2020, Sebastian Stan compared working on the show to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, stating:

What I loved about it was that, tonally, it was very much in the same world that Captain America: The Winter Soldier was, which was one of my favorite experiences that I’ve ever had, period. So, in a sense, it was grounded and very much in the world as we know it. But, it’s also really jam-packed with a lot of massive, massive action scenes mixed with deep focus on character. That’s what’s really exciting about this. We’re getting to keep it in the world of the movies, so it’s recognizable that way, but at the same time, these characters are getting so much more mileage for all of us to explore them. We can put them in situations that we’ve never been able to put them in before because you now have six hours as opposed to two. It’s always a discovery.

A few months later, Anthony Mackie echoed his co-star's comments of the series during a conversation with Daveed Diggs for Variety's Actors on Actors series, stating:

We're shooting it exactly like a movie. Everybody who had worked on TV before was like, 'I've never worked on a TV show like this.' It feels exactly like we're shooting the movie just cut up into the show. So, instead of a two-hour movie, a six or eight-hour movie.

Both of these comments from the stars of The Falcon and The Winter Solder make the show seem like it's going to full of action and great character development. I mean, who doesn't want more of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes talking about their respective pasts while also saving the world from unknown threats?

There is still so much left to know about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, so make sure to check back for future updates on the Marvel show and others like it coming to Disney+ in the very near future.
