Rick And Morty Confirms Key Character Returning To Season 5 To Spark More Fan Debates
The Rick And Morty team has been non-committal in confirming whether or not the show will continue to touch on previously serialized storylines following its massive renewal by Adult Swim and, on top of that, it's sending mixed signals that keep fans guessing. After an episode in Season 4 had Rick and Morty openly discuss their desire and plan for more episodic adventures, Dan Harmon confirmed at a recent panel for the show that a key Season 4 character will be returning in Season 5.
Dan Harmon and others spoke to fans during the online Rick and Morty panel at Adult Swim Festival 2020 and made the announcement that a new character in Season 4 would return for Season 5. Read on for Harmon's reveal on the character and what it means for one of the show's central characters:
For those who may not remember, Space Beth was introduced in the Season 4 episode "Star Mort Rickturn Of The Jerri." Her existence is the result of Beth wanting a life with more fulfillment but not necessarily wanting to abandon her family in the process. Rick created a clone with the same memories for Beth to fulfill her dream but also realized he wasn't comfortable with losing his daughter and having a clone in her place. He deliberately shuffled the bodies and then wiped his own memory to not know which version of Beth is the original one.
As of now, it's still unclear which Beth is the original one. Ironically, Rick and Morty fans will remember that neither Beth is technically Rick's original Beth, as he and Morty joined this universe after ruining their own a couple of seasons before that. Perhaps Space Beth's return will be to address something related to that, or it could just be an adventure that requires her to team up with her other half.
One never can be sure with Rick and Morty, which introduces a lot of new characters who may or may not continue to be a part of the story. Characters like Krombopulos Michael seemed like they would be a heavy part of the story given fan acclaim, and who would've guessed a character named Mr. Poopybutthole would have the run he's had on the show? It's never obvious which secondary characters will be relevant in the Adult Swim series, which may be a key as to what makes the series so enjoyable.
Rick and Morty Season 5 is currently in development to air on Adult Swim, while past seasons can be streamed right now on HBO Max. Continue to stick with CinemaBlend for all the latest happening in the franchise, and for more news happening in television and movies.
