Looks Like Jeremy Renner's First Hawkeye TV Co-Star Has Been Confirmed For Disney+ Show
Marvel fans unfortunately didn't get nearly as much MCU action as usual in 2020, but production on the Disney+ shows starring familiar MCU faces is happening to guarantee some superhero content coming to the small screen, now including Hawkeye. Starring Jeremy Renner of the Avengers films back in his iconic role as Hawkeye, the upcoming limited series is also introducing Kate Bishop, who will presumably take up the mantle of Hawkeye. Now, a new cast member for the series has seemingly been confirmed with production happening, and it's one that many MCU fans have been waiting for: Hailee Steinfeld.
Hailee Steinfeld, known for True Grit and Dickinson, was first rumored to be taking the part of Kate Bishop more than a year ago, although Steinfeld herself later indicated that her joining the MCU wasn't a done deal. New footage has hit the web that appears to show Steinfeld filming a subway scene with Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton. Although the video itself isn't the best quality, fan Edward Baker confirmed to Murphy's Multiverse that Steinfeld was the one on set.
Support for the report that Hailee Steinfeld was filming a subway scene with Jeremy Renner for Hawkeye comes straight from Renner himself. The actor took to Twitter to share an intriguing photo. While the photo doesn't reveal Steinfeld or even any member of the cast, it does officially confirm that Hawkeye was filming a subway scene, and the caption is more than a little teasing:
Jeremy Renner posted the photo just hours after the video seemingly confirming Hailee Steinfeld's involvement as Kate Bishop on Hawkeye began to circulate, so it's possible that his tweet was in reaction to the footage getting out. That said, nobody from the show, Marvel, or Disney has confirmed that Steinfeld will be playing Kate Bishop for the series.
Still, if production is happening already in New York City, it's presumably only a matter of time before somebody gets a clear shot of Kate to prove once and for all who will be wielding the bow next in the MCU. For her part, Hailee Steinfeld did share a post on Instagram that referenced a bow and arrow, but not Hawkeye directly. Take a look:
Hailee Steinfeld's post is apparently about her upcoming 24th birthday on December 11, making her a Sagittarius, with the Archer as the Zodiac symbol. The photo and caption could have just been Steinfeld sharing her excitement about turning 24 in a little over a week. Or, it could have been Steinfeld hinting about starting production on Hawkeye as Kate Bishop on top of being excited about her birthday!
For now, we can only wait and hope that more official details are on the way sooner rather than later. Hawkeye being ready for a Disney+ debut is still a ways off, and WandaVision will be the Disney streamer's first original MCU series when it premieres on January 15, 2021. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will presumably be the second, with Hawkeye and more debuting down the line.
